George, Son Of Constantine I Of Georgia
Giorgi ( ka, გიორგი) was a Georgian royal prince (''batonishvili'') of the Bagrationi dynasty and co-king of Georgia from 1408 to 1412. Prince George was the third son of King Constantine I of Georgia and his wife Natia Khurtsidze. In 1434, he married Gulashar (Gulkhan) of Imereti and had son Bagrat VI of Georgia. ''Batonishvili'' ( ka, ბატონიშვილი) (literally "a child of batoni (lord or sovereign)" in Georgian) is a title for royal princes and princesses who descend from the kings of Georgia from the Bagrationi dynasty and is suffixed to the names e.g. Alexandre Batonishvili, Ioane Batonishvili, Nino Batonishvili etc. The title was eventually borne not only by the children of the reigning king (''mepe''), but by all male-line descendants of past kings. Bagrationi Dynasty
The Bagrationi dynasty (; ) is a royal dynasty which reigned in Georgia from the Middle Ages until the early 19th century, being among the oldest extant Christian ruling dynasties in the world. In modern usage, the name of the dynasty is sometimes Hellenized and referred to as the Georgian Bagratids, also known in English as the Bagrations. The origins of the dynasty are disputed. The early Georgian Bagratids gained the Principality of Iberia through dynastic marriage after succeeding the Chosroid dynasty at the end of the 8th century. In 888 Adarnase IV of Iberia restored the Georgian monarchy; various native polities then united into the Kingdom of Georgia, which prospered from the 11th to the 13th century. Constantine I Of Georgia
Constantine I ( ka, კონსტანტინე I, ) (died 1412) was King of Georgia from 1405 or 1407 until his death in 1412. He is the common ancestor of all surviving branches of the Bagrationi dynasty. Biography Constantine was the elder son of King Bagrat V of Georgia by his second wife, Anna of Trebizond. His maternal grandparents were Alexios III of Trebizond and Theodora Kantakouzene. In 1400, Constantine was sent as an ambassador to the Turco-Mongol warlord Timur (Tamerlane) who continued a relentless and devastating war against the Georgians. Afterwards, he vainly demanded from his reigning half-brother George VII to make peace with Timur. In 1402, Constantine together with the prince Ioane Jakeli of Samtskhe submitted to Timur but never took part in the war against Georgia. Bagrat VI Of Georgia
Bagrat VI ( ka, ბაგრატ VI; 1439 – 1478), a representative of the Imeretian branch of the Bagrationi dynasty, was a king of Imereti (as Bagrat II) from 1463, and a king of Georgia from 1465 until his death. Life He was the son of Prince George. Around 1455, he was granted the title of Eristavi (duke) of Samokalako (Kutaisi, western Imereti, and the surroundings) by the Georgian king George VIII. In the early 1460s, Bagrat supported the rebel prince Qvarqvare II Jaqeli, atabeg (prince) of Samtskhe, and the king deprived Bagrat of his duchy. In 1463, Bagrat led a coalition of western Georgian nobles who met and defeated George VIII at the Battle of Chikhori. Subsequently, Bagrat captured Kutaisi and was crowned king of Imereti. Demetrius, Son Of Alexander I Of Georgia
Demetrius (''Dimitri''; ka, დიმიტრი) ( 1413 – 1453) was the second son of King Alexander I of Georgia by his first wife Dulandukht Orbeliani. He was co-king with his father from 1433 to 1442 and with his brother Vakhtang IV from 1442 to 1446. On Vakhtang's death, Demetrius became a ''de jure'' king of Georgia but his accession to the throne was precluded by his younger brother George VIII. Biography Demetrius first appears in the charter dated to 1413. Traditional Georgian historiography founded by Prince Vakhushti in the 18th century erroneously makes him a younger brother of George VIII and frequently omits him from the list of the kings of Georgia.
