Departments Of Burkina Faso
The provinces of Burkina Faso are divided into 351 departments (as of 2014 and since local elections of 2012), whose urbanized areas (cities, towns and villages) are grouped into the same commune (municipality) with the same name as the department. The department also covers rural areas (including national natural parks) that are not governed locally by the elected municipal council of the commune (presided by its mayor, with representants elected for each village or urban sector), but by the state represented at departmental level by a prefect (supervized by the haut-commissaire of its province, themself assisted by a general secretary and acting under the hierarchic authority the governor of its region, all of them being nominated by the national government). Gaoua
Gaoua is a market town in southern Burkina Faso known for its superstitious values and customs. The population, rested at 45,284. (2019 census) Located in the red earth, green hills, and fast flowing streams of southwestern Burkina Faso, Gaoua is the capital of Poni Province and forms a sort of capital for the sacred rites and bush lore of the Lobi people, Lobi peoples. According to local myth, Gaoua was founded when the Lobi migrated across from northern Ghana where they found the Gan people (West Africa), Gan people peoples occupying the territory. As a result, they named the trek across to Gaoua ''Gan-houo'' meaning "route of the Gan people". Attractions in the town include a sacred grove of trees, the Poni Museum (''Musée des Civilisations des Peuples du Sud-Ouest'' or ''Musée du Poni'') and caves. Gbomblora
Gbomblora is a village in the province of Poni in the Sud-Ouest Region of Burkina Faso. It is the capital of Gbomblora Department. Geography Gbomblora is located roughly 12 kilometers to the south east of the town of Gaoua. It is connected to the route nationale 11. History In February 2022, Gbomblora was scene of a deadly explosion at a gold mine.
