''Goniothalamus nitidus'' is a species of plant in the family Annonaceae. It is native to Borneo. Elmer Drew Merrill, the American botanist who first species description, formally described the species, named it after its shining (' in Latin) leaves. Description It is a tree reaching 7 meters in height. Its mature, dark branches are hairless. Its sparsely hairy to hairless petiole (botany), petioles are 1 - 1.5 centimeters long. Elmer Drew Merrill (October 15, 1876 – February 25, 1956) was an American botanist and taxonomist. He spent more than twenty years in the Philippines where he became a recognized authority on the flora of the Asia-Pacific region. Through the course of his career he authored nearly 500 publications, described approximately 3,000 new plant species, and amassed over one million herbarium specimens.
