Giribala
''Giribala'' is a Bengali silent drama film directed by Madhu Bose based on the same name short story of Rabindranath Tagore. This film's name was initially ''Manbhanjan'', which was changed to Giribala by the suggestion of Tagore himself. The movie was released on 15 February 1929 under the banner of Madan Theatre. Tagore was present at the first show of the film and he expressed his satisfaction towards the movie Giribala. Dhiraj Bhattacharya
Dhiraj Bhattacharya (5 November 1905 - 1959) was an actor of Bengali and Hindi cinema who began in silent films. He was also a theater personality and writer. Early life Bhattacharya was born in a zamindar family of Panjia village, near Jessore, in British India. His father's name was Lalit Mohan Bhattacharya. He entered Mitra Institution, Kolkata and passed matriculation in 1923. He joined Ashutosh College to study literature but could not finish his studies. Bhattacharya joined the police service before becoming an actor. Career Bhattacharya started his acting career after joining Madan Theatre. His first film ''Sati Lakhsmi'' was released in 1925 but he first gained recognition from Charu Roy's movie ''Bengalee''. He worked with Madhu Basu in ''Giribala'', and acted in several detective and thriller films of Premendra Mitra. Madhu Bose
Modhu Bose (1900–1969), was an Indian film director, actor, singer and screenwriter during the thirties to sixties. He was born on 12 February 1900 at 63 Dharmatala Street, Kolkata. His mother was Kamala Dutt Bose, a renowned educator who founded the Kamala Girls School at Ballygunge, she was the daughter of Romesh Chunder Dutt. His father was Pramatha Nath Bose, a geologist and palaeontologist who first discovered iron deposits in Jamshedpur and was instrumental in the setting up of Jamshedpur by writing to J. N. Tata about the rich iron ore reserves. Madan Theatre Company, also known as Madan Theatres Limited or Madan Theatres in short, was a film production company founded by Jamshedji Framji & his partner Kanhaiyalal Kaushik, one of the pioneers of Indian Cinema.
