Gel Pen
A gel pen uses ink in which pigment is Suspension (chemistry), suspended in a water-based gel. Because the ink is thick and Opacity (optics), opaque, it shows up more clearly on slick surfaces than the typical inks used in ballpoint pen, ballpoint or marker pen, felt tip pens. Gel pens can be used for many types of writing and illustration. The general design of a gel pen is similar to that of a regular ballpoint, ink-based pen, with a barrel containing the writing mechanism and a cap, and a reservoir filled with ink. At the end of the ink tube is an ink "follower", made of more viscous gelled material which is usually translucent and follows the water-based ink. Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) is a chromatography technique that separates components in non-volatile mixtures. It is performed on a TLC plate made up of a non-reactive solid coated with a thin layer of adsorbent material. This is called the stationary phase. The sample is deposited on the plate, which is eluted with a solvent or solvent mixture known as the mobile phase (or eluent). This solvent then moves up the plate via capillary action. As with all chromatography, some compounds are more attracted to the mobile phase, while others are more attracted to the stationary phase.
