Gabie Strong
Gabie Strong is an interdisciplinary artist, experimental guitarist, noise musician and community organizer based in Los Angeles. Biography Strong was born in Denver, Colorado and grew up in Los Angeles, California. She first got involved in the city's arts and music scenes as a teenager, authoring the Kitten Kore zine, which was mentioned in Kurt Cobain's Journals, and playing in various riot grrl bands such as Pussywillow and Canopy in the early 90's. In the latter part of that decade, she became involved with the city's experimental music community, focusing on bass and guitar by the late 90's, using the instrument as a means of eliciting layered feedback and drones, influenced by such acts as The Dead C, Skullflower, and Sunn O))). The Los Angeles Free Music Society (LAFMS) is a loose underground collective of experimental avant-rock artist-musicians formed in 1973. Described as a "lightning rod for art-damage, weird-music lovers everywhere," LAFMS was formed by Chip Chapman, Joe Potts, Rick Potts and Tom Recchion. In addition to performing in various configurations, LAFMS produced records, organized concerts, and produced a magazine titled ''Light Bulb.'' Jabberjaw was a coffeehouse and music venue in Los Angeles, California known for its all-ages underground rock music shows. Ramleh are a British experimental music group formed by musician Gary Mundy in 1982. The current line-up of the band includes Gary Mundy, Anthony di Franco and Stuart Dennison. Michael Morley is an experimental musician and visual artist from New Zealand. Morley sings and plays guitar and laptop as a member of The Dead C, but also records on his own (and with collaborators) as Gate.
