Gaël Monfils
Gaël Sébastien Monfils (; born 1 September 1986) is a French professional tennis player. He has been ATP rankings, ranked as high as world No. 6 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), achieved in November 2016. Monfils has won 13 ATP Tour singles titles, out of 35 finals contested. His best results at the Grand Slam (tennis), Majors are two semifinals, at the 2008 French Open – Men's singles, 2008 French Open and 2016 US Open – Men's singles, 2016 US Open. Monfils was named the ATP Newcomer of the Year in 2005 ATP Tour, 2005. He reached at least one ATP Tour singles final every year for 19 consecutive seasons from 2005 to 2023, and is one of Open Era tennis records – Men's singles#Per consecutive seasons, five players in the Open Era to do so for 19 or more seasons. 2016 ATP World Tour Finals – Singles
Andy Murray defeated the four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic in the final, 6–3, 6–4 to win the singles tennis title at the 2016 ATP World Tour Finals. With the win, Murray attained the year-end No. 1 ranking for the first time. Murray won the longest three-set match in the tournament's history, 3 hours and 38 minutes, in the semifinals against Milos Raonic, saving a match point en route to the victory and to the title. Roger Federer, whose season was curtailed by injury, did not qualify for the Tour Finals for the first time since 2001, ending his record streak of 14 consecutive appearances. The ATP Tour (known as ATP World Tour between January 2009 and December 2018) is the sole worldwide top-tier tennis tour for men organized by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) founded in 1990 that replaced the earlier dual Grand Prix tennis circuit, Grand Prix Circuit and WCT Circuit. Association Of Tennis Professionals
The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) is the governing body of the men's professional tennis circuits – the ATP Tour and the ATP Challenger Tour. It was formed in September 1972 by Donald Dell, Jack Kramer, and Cliff Drysdale to protect the interests of professional tennis players, and Drysdale became the first president. Since 1990 the association has organized the ATP Tour, the worldwide tennis tour for men and linked the title of the tour with the organization's name. It is the governing body of men's professional tennis. In 1990 the organization was called the ATP Tour, which was renamed in 2001 as just ATP and the tour being called ATP Tour. ATP Rankings
The PIF ATP Rankings (previously known as the Pepperstone ATP Rankings) are the merit-based method used by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for determining the qualification for entry as well as the seeding of players in all singles and doubles tournaments. The first rankings for singles were published on 23 August 1973 while the doubles players were ranked for the first time on 1 March 1976. Ranking points are awarded according to the stage of tournament reached, and the prestige of the tournament, with the four Grand Slam tournaments awarding the most points.
