Franciscan Province Of Herzegovina
Franciscan Province of Herzegovina of the Ascension of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a province of the Catholic religious order of the Order of Friars Minor, commonly known as Franciscans. It was established in 1843 when it seceded from the Franciscan Province of Bosna Srebrena. Its headquarters are in Mostar. The Franciscans were present at the territory of Herzegovina since the 13th century. During the Ottoman rule, they established their exclusive care of the Catholics under the Ottoman held-territories, thus gaining a number of privileges, acting as a ''de facto'' an Ottoman institution. With the restoration of the Church hierarchy after the Austrian-Hungarian occupation in 1881, the Franciscans fiercely opposed the restoration, trying to preserve their privileges and control over the Herzegovinian parishes, a conflict which is not resolved till the present-day, known as the Herzegovina Affair. Assumption Of Mary
The Assumption of Mary is one of the four Marian dogmas of the Catholic Church. Pope Pius XII defined it in 1950 in his apostolic constitution '' Munificentissimus Deus'' as follows: We proclaim and define it to be a dogma revealed by God that the immaculate Mother of God, Mary ever virgin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven. The declaration was built upon the 1854 dogma of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, which declared that Mary was conceived free from original sin, and both have their foundation in the concept of Mary as the Mother of God. It leaves open the question of whether Mary died or whether she was raised to eternal life without bodily death. The equivalent belief (but not held as dogma) in the Eastern Orthodox Church is the Dormition of the Mother of God or the "Falling Asleep of the Mother of God". Franciscan Friary, Humac
Franciscan friary of Saint Anthony is a friary of the Franciscan Province of Herzegovina in Humac, Ljubuški. The friary church was built in 1869 and the friary in 1871. During World War II, the friary was heavily damaged, but its south and east wing, as well as the church, were renovated in 1961, while the south wing was built anew in 1967. History Franciscans already had the friary of the Holy Madonna in the nearby town of Ljubuški built in the 15th century, which was destroyed by the Ottomans in the search for Bishop Daniel Vocatius in 1563. After the destruction of the friary, the Franciscans of Ljubuški joined their fellow Franciscans in Zaostrog from where they pastored the area of Ljubuški. After the end of the Morean War, the pastoral care of Ljubuški was taken by the Franciscans in Kreševo in 1700. The Diocese of Mostar-Duvno ( la, Dioecesis Mandentriensis-Dulminiensis) is a particular church of the Catholic Church in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It encompasses northern Herzegovina.
