Four Dead In Ohio
"Ohio" is a protest song and counterculture anthem written and composed by Neil Young in reaction to the Kent State shootings of May 4, 1970, and performed by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. It was released as a single, backed with Stephen Stills's "Find the Cost of Freedom", peaking at number 14 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and number 16 in Canada. Although a live version of "Ohio" was included on the group's 1971 double album ''4 Way Street,'' the studio versions of both songs did not appear on an LP until the group's compilation '' So Far'' was released in 1974. The song also appeared on the Neil Young compilation albums ''Decade,'' released in 1977, and ''Greatest Hits'', released in 2004. The song also appears on Neil Young's '' Live at Massey Hall'' album, which he recorded in 1971 but remained unreleased until 2007. Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) were a folk rock supergroup made up of American singer-songwriters David Crosby and Stephen Stills and English singer-songwriter Graham Nash. When joined by Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young as a fourth member, they are called Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY). They are noted for their lasting influence on American music and counterculture of the 1960s, culture, and for their intricate vocal harmonies, often tumultuous interpersonal relationships, and political activism. CSN formed in 1968 shortly after Crosby, Stills and Nash performed together informally in July of that year, discovering they harmonized well. Greatest Hits (Neil Young Album)
''Greatest Hits'' is Neil Young's third compilation album after ''Decade'' and '' Lucky Thirteen''. Eleven of the first twelve tracks appear on ''Decade'', and the disc spans his solo career from 1969 through 1992. On the rear cover of the album, Young comments that the tracks were selected "based on original record sales, airplay and known download history". Mastering All tracks on this album were mastered using the HDCD process, which Young had been utilizing for his studio work since 1995. The album was also released as a high-resolution DVD Video disc with 24bit 96 kHz audio, and in a two-disc format including the audio album plus a bonus DVD with videos for "Rockin' in the Free World" and "Harvest Moon". Bill Halverson (producer)
Bill Halverson (born 1942) is an American record producer and engineer who worked on several critically acclaimed rock records of the 1960s and 1970s. He is most well known for working with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and their respective solo albums. His other engineering credits include Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker, Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, and Emmylou Harris. Career Halverson, a bass trombone player in the Dominguez Hills Junior College all-star jazz band, met engineer Wally Heider during a 1960 recording session at United Recording, and the two formed a friendship. Over the next four years, Halverson toured with music acts like Tex Beneke. After Halverson left Beneke's band in 1964, Heider hired him as assistant engineer at the newly-opened Studio 3 in Hollywood. Keening
Keening (Irish: Caointeoireacht) is a traditional form of vocal lament for the dead in the Gaelic Celtic tradition, known to have taken place in Ireland and Scotland. Keening, which can be seen as a form of sean-nós singing, was performed in the Irish and Scottish Gaelic languages (the Scottish equivalent of keening is known as a coronach). Keening was once an integral part of the formal Irish funeral ritual, but declined from the 18th century and became almost completely extinct by the middle of the 20th century. Only a handful of authentic keening songs were recorded from traditional singers. David Crosby
David Van Cortlandt Crosby (born August 14, 1941) is an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter. In addition to his solo career, he was a founding member of both the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Crosby joined the Byrds in 1964. They got their first number-one hit in April 1965 with a cover of " Mr. Tambourine Man" by Bob Dylan. Crosby appeared on the Byrds' first five albums and produced the original lineup's 1973 reunion album. In 1967 he joined Buffalo Springfield on stage at the Monterey Pop Festival, which contributed to his dismissal from the Byrds. The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. John Barbata (born April 1, 1945) is an American drummer who was active especially in pop and rock bands in the 1960s and 1970s, both as a band member and as a session drummer. Barbata has served as the drummer for The Turtles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Jefferson Airplane (for its final album and tour only), and Jefferson Starship (from 1974 to 1978).
