Football At The 1951 Pan American Games
The first edition of the football tournament at the Pan American Games was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from February 25 to March 8, 1951. Five teams did compete, after Brazil withdrew on February 16, 1951. Paraguay participated with the club side Club Sport Colombia, strengthened with some guest players from other clubs. Costa Rica and Venezuela entered their full national teams (as they only had amateur football domestically). Guillermo Stábile
Guillermo Stábile (17 January 1905 – 26 December 1966) was an Argentine professional football player and manager who played as a centre forward. At club level, Stábile won two national championships with Huracán and played in Italy and France. He was the top scorer of 1930 World Cup, the inaugural iteration of the tournament. As manager, he led Argentina to victory at six South American Championships and Racing Club to three league titles. Club career Early career Stábile was born in Parque Patricios, Buenos Aires. He began his career with local club Sportivo Metán and from 1920, with Huracán. In 1924, he progressed to the first team which played in Argentina's top league, which then still had amateur status. Football At The Pan American Games
Football (soccer) at the Pan American Games has been included in every Pan American Games as a men's competition sport, since the first edition of the multi-sports event in 1951. The competition is organized by the Pan American Sports Organization. So as to avoid competition with the World Cup, FIFA have restricted participation of elite players in the men's tournament in various ways. Currently squads for the men's tournament are required to be composed of players under 22 years of age. The tournament was played in league format from 1951 to 1963, neither final nor bronze medal match hosted. Another format was used in 1971, this time the tournament was played in group format in early stages, but played in league format for final stages. The 1983 tournament saw only 3 teams played in the final group stages, with the first and final time the tournament did not have the fourth place team. A women's tournament was introduced in 1999. Arturo Emilio Rodenak (13 April 1931 – 26 September 2012) was an Argentine–born Chilean footballer, regarded as one of the greatest players in Rangers’ history. Rogelio Antonio Domínguez López (9 March 1931 – 23 July 2004) was an Argentine football goalkeeper who played for Real Madrid and was part of their European Cup victories in 1959 and 1960. He was in Argentina's squad for the 1962 FIFA World Cup. Biography Domínguez was discovered during a match by the cofounder of the famous Club River Plate, Carlos Peucelle, who persuaded Dominguez to begin to train at River Plate in March 1946.
