Football At The 1980 Summer Olympics – Men's Asian Qualifiers
This page provides the summaries of the matches of the qualifying tournaments divided into three groups, two of six teams and one of five teams. The winners and runners-up of each group met in a play-off match to qualify for the Football at the 1980 Summer Olympics, 1980 Summer Olympics tournament held in Moscow. Three teams qualified – Kuwait national football team, Kuwait, Malaysia national football team, Malaysia and Iran national football team, Iran. However, due to the United States, American-led political boycott, Malaysia and Iran did not enter the Final Tournament and were replaced by Iraq national football team, Iraq and Syria national football team, Syria respectively. Football At The 1980 Summer Olympics
The football tournament at the 1980 Summer Olympics started on 20 July and ended on 2 August. Only one event, the ''men's tournament'', was contested. Seven qualified countries did not participate joining the American-led boycott in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Sixteen teams were divided into four groups: *''Group A'' (USSR, Cuba, Venezuela, Zambia) *''Group B'' (Colombia, Kuwait, Nigeria, Czechoslovakia) *''Group C'' (Algeria, Spain, GDR, Syria) *''Group D'' (Costa Rica, Finland, Iraq, Yugoslavia) In the technical report following the competition, FIFA reported that: "Compared with the 1979 World Youth Tournament in Japan and the 1978 World Cup finals in Argentina, the standard of football at the Olympic Football Tournament was generally of an inferior quality,". Abdolreza Barzegari
Abdolreza Barzegari ( fa, عبدالرضا برزگری; born 3 July 1958 in Abadan, Iran) is a former Iranian football player. Playing career Barzagari known as "The Persian Black Pearl", he started playing football at a young age in his neighborhood of Ahmad Abad in Abadan. After changing a few teams during his earlier years, he joined Sanat Naft, the most popular team of Khuzestan. He made his debut at 17 against Tractor Sazi in Takhte Jamshid League, but his debut was not too promising and did not go well for the young player. Hossein Faraki ( fa, حسین فرکی, born 22 March 1957) is a retired Iranian football player and a coach. Personal life He was born on 22 March 1957 in Tehran, Iran. James Wong (footballer)
Datuk James Wong (born 26 June 1953) is a former Malaysian footballer who is a striker for Malaysia national football team and Sabah. He also played as a goalkeeper for the Malaysia youth team in the 1971 AFC Youth Championship. He was known as ''King James'' by the local fans. Bakri Ibni (born 25 August 1952) is a Malaysian former football player who represented the Malaysian national football team in the 1970s - 1980s. Career Overview He played for Perlis FA in Malaysia's domestic competition until 1984 and joined Selangor club Talasco to unite with legendary national striker Mokhtar Dahari.
