Figaro And His Great Day
''Figaro e la sua gran giornata'' (in English, ''Figaro and his Great Day'') is a 1931 Italian comedy film directed by Mario Camerini and starring Gianfranco Giachetti, Leda Gloria and Ugo Ceseri.Celli & Cottino-Jones p.192 It was shot at the Cines Studios in Rome. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Gastone Medin and Ivo Perilli. Synopsis In a small town in the Veneto region, an attempt to stage Rossini's ''The Barber of Seville'' is threatened when the prima donna loses her voice. An attempt is made to replace her with a singing student, but both her father and boyfriend object. Mario Camerini
Mario Camerini (6 February 1895 – 4 February 1981) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. The cousin of Augusto Genina, he made the most well-known films in Italy during the 1930s, most of them comedies starring Vittorio De Sica. He directed about 50 films till 1972, including ''Ulysses'' with American stars Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn, one of the first Europe/U.S.A. film coproductions. He died in 1981 in Gardone Rivera, Italy. Achille Majeroni (24 August 1881 – 12 October 1964) was an Italian film actor. Born in Syracuse, Sicily, son of Achille Majeroni and his second wife Graziosa Bignetti, he made his stage debut at age twelve with the Marazzi-Diligenti company. Umberto Sacripante (2 October 1904 – 14 January 1975) was an Italian film and stage actor. Life and career Born Umberto Sacripanti in Rome, Sacripante debuted on stage in 1921, and in 1926 he became first actor in the theatrical company Teatro degli Indipendenti directed by Anton Giulio Bragaglia. He made his film debut in 1930, and in a short time he became one of the most active character actors of his time. Thanks to his good knowledge of German language, he was also often cast in German and Austrian productions.
