The result is notable as one of the biggest shocks in association football, football history, as the Faroe Islands were playing their first ever competitive match with a team composed of amateur players, while Austria had played at the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy less than three months earlier. UEFA Euro 1992 Qualifying
The qualifying competition for UEFA Euro 1992 was a series of parallel association football competitions to be held over 1990 and 1991 to decide the qualifiers for UEFA Euro 1992, to be held in Sweden. The draw for the qualifying rounds was held on 2 February 1990. There were a total of seven groups. At the conclusion of qualifying, the team at the top of each group qualified for the final tournament, to join the hosts in completing the eight participants. This was the last European Championship to feature eight teams, as the competition was expanded to 16 teams for 1996. Qualified teams Seedings The draw took place on 2 February 1990. Jens Martin Knudsen (footballer)
Jens Martin Knudsen (born 11 June 1967) is a former Faroese footballer who played as a goalkeeper and a businessman. He was perhaps best known for wearing a hat in his matches as a result of an injury he suffered at age 14. He later become known as "the bobble hat goalkeeper". Club career Knudsen started his career as an amateur footballer for local team NSÍ Runavík. In 1992, he moved to GÍ Gøta to win a Faroese championship medal four times in a row between 1993 and 1996. After two seasons in Iceland with Leiftur he returned to the Faroe Islands and spent a short time on loan at Scottish team Ayr United before moving back to Leiftur for one more season. Michael Konsel
Michael Konsel (born 6 March 1962) is an Austrian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Club career Born in Vienna, Konsel started his professional career with First Vienna and moved to local rivals Rapid Wien in 1985. He then played a part in the successful Rapid team in the 1980s, claiming the League crown twice and most prominently losing the UEFA Cup Winners Cup Final 3–1 against Everton in Rotterdam in 1985. He stayed at Rapid for 12 years and captained the side in his last two seasons. Kurt Mørkøre
Kurt Mørkøre (born 20 February 1969) is a former Faroese football midfielder or striker who is currently manager of the Norwegian club Averøykameratene. He is the elder brother of fellow Faroese international Allan Mørkøre. He is a baker by profession. Jan Dam (born 7 September 1968) is a Faroese former professional footballer who played as a defender. At present, he works as a teacher at a Faroese public school and also as a reserve team coach at the football club EB/Streymur. Club career Dam made his debut in Faroese football at the age of 17 with HB Tórshavn as a defender in the 1986 season and remained with the club for ten years before he moved abroad to Danish side Ølstykke FC. Abraham Løkin (born Abraham Hansen 16 June 1959, Fuglafjørður, Faroe Islands) is a former Faroe Islands Association football player and former manager of Faroese football club ÍF Fuglafjørður. He is the father of Elin Løkin, Bogi Løkin, Karl Løkin and Steffan Løkin. Allan Mørkøre (born 22 November 1971) is a former Faroese professional football midfielder. Now he is a manager for B71 Sandoy, which plays in the men's second best division. He was manager for AB from 2008 to 2010, he replaced Sigfríður Clementsen, who is currently the manager for HB. In 2010, he became manager of B36 Tórshavn.
