FIS Ski-Flying World Championships 2010
The FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2010 was held 18–21 March 2010 in Planica, Slovenia for a record sixth time. Planica hosted the event previously in 1972, 1979, 1985, 1994, and 2004. Austria's Gregor Schlierenzauer was the defending individual champion. Schlierenzauer and his Austrian teammates of Andreas Kofler, Martin Koch (ski jumper), Martin Koch, and Thomas Morgenstern were the defending team champions. Schedule Results Qualifying 18 March 2010 Individual Ammann had the longest jump of the competition with a 236.5 m fourth round jump. He also led after the first two rounds and had the most points both two days to win the championships for the first time. Planica
Planica () is an Alpine valley in northwestern Slovenia, extending south from the border village of Rateče, not far from another well-known ski resort, Kranjska Gora. Further south, the valley extends into the Tamar Valley, a popular hiking destination in Triglav National Park. Planica is famous for ski jumping. The first ski jumping hill was constructed before 1930 at the slope of Mount Ponca. In 1933, Ivan Rožman constructed a larger hill, known as the Bloudek Giant (''Bloudkova velikanka'') after Stanko Bloudek, which later gave rise to ski flying. The venue was completed in 1934. The first ski jump over in history was achieved at the hill in 1936 by Sepp Bradl. At the time, it was the biggest jumping hill in the world. Simon Ammann
Simon Ammann (; born 25 June 1981) is a Swiss ski jumper. He is one of the most successful athletes in the history of the sport, having won four individual Winter Olympic gold medals, in 2002 and 2010. His other achievements include winning the 2007 Ski Jumping World Championships, the 2010 Ski Flying World Championships, the 2010 Nordic Tournament, and the 2010 Ski Jumping World Cup overall title. David Zauner
David Zauner (born 9 April 1985) is an Austrian ski jumper and former nordic combined skier. He made his Ski jumping Continental Cup debut in July 2009 in Villach with an eighth place. He also recorded a fifth and sixth place in Wisła and a ninth place in Rovaniemi in the same season. Janne Mikael Happonen (born 18 June 1984) is a Finnish former ski jumper who competed from 2001 to 2014, representing Puijo Ski Club. Career Happonen made his World Cup debut on 23 November 2001 in Kuopio, finishing an impressive eleventh in the individual large hill competition. Five years later he scored his first World Cup win on 5 March 2006, in a team competition in Willingen. This was followed up exactly a month later on 5 March, when Happonen won his first individual competition on the large hill in Lahti. Johan Remen Evensen (born 16 September 1985) is a Norwegian former ski jumper. He is a two-time world record holder in ski flying, achieving his peak distance of in 2011. A late bloomer, Evensen made his World Cup debut during the 2008/09 season at age 23, and earned a place in the Norwegian World Cup team following consecutive top 12 finishes at Granåsen. Kamil Wiktor Stoch (; born 25 May 1987) is a Polish ski jumper.
