FC Kansas City
FC Kansas City was an American professional women's soccer club based in Kansas City, Missouri. The team was one of the eight founding clubs of the National Women's Soccer League in 2012, and began play in 2013. They were two-time NWSL champions, having won titles in 2014 and 2015. After the 2017 season, the NWSL re-acquired owner Elam Baer's membership interest and subsequently ceased the team's operations. History Establishment and inaugural season In November 2012, it was confirmed that a Kansas City-based women's professional soccer team had been accepted into a new women's professional soccer league, later named National Women's Soccer League. Becky Sauerbrunn
Rebecca Elizabeth Sauerbrunn (born June 6, 1985) is an American former professional association football, soccer player who played as a center back. She co-captained the United States women's national soccer team, United States national team with Carli Lloyd from 2016 to 2018 and was the captain of the team from 2021 to 2023. Sauerbrunn played college soccer for the Virginia Cavaliers women's soccer, Virginia Cavaliers before starting her professional career with the Washington Freedom (soccer), Washington Freedom in Women's Professional Soccer in 2010. After the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) formed in 2013, Sauerbrunn led FC Kansas City to two of the league's first three NWSL Championship, championships. Swope Soccer Village
Swope Soccer Village is a soccer complex located within Swope Park in Kansas City, Missouri, first dedicated in 2007 with further renovations completed in 2014. The facility is a public-private partnership between the City of Kansas City's parks department and Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer, with field reservations managed by Sporting Fields + Athletics. Children's Mercy Training Center is home to Sporting Kansas City II and Sporting Kansas City's six youth academy teams. Nia Jensen (; born September 19, 1990) is an American retired soccer defender who most recently played for FC Kansas City in the National Women's Soccer League. Early life Born in Roeland Park, Kansas to Huw Williams and Nina Leek, Williams attended and played for St. James Academy in Lenexa, Kansas. In 2009, she was named Shawnee Dispatch Female Athlete of the Year for after starting as a defender all four years for St. James. The 2014 NWSL College Draft was the second annual meeting of National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) franchises to select eligible college players. It was held on January 17, 2014, at the NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was open to the public.
