Ergenekon Trials
The Ergenekon trials were a series of high-profile trials which took place on 2008–2016 in Turkey in which 275 people, including military officers, journalists and opposition lawmakers, all alleged members of Ergenekon, a suspected secularist clandestine organization, were accused of plotting against the Turkish government. The trials resulted in lengthy prison sentences for the majority of the accused. Those sentences were overturned shortly after. Since Istanbul Heavy Penal Court 13 (tr: ''13. Şener Eruygur
Mehmet Şener Eruygur (born 17 June 1941, in Erzurum) is a former Turkish general. He was General Commander of the Gendarmerie of Turkey from 2002 to 2004, and was later head of the Atatürk Thought Association. Eruygur was one of those charged in the Ergenekon trials with being involved with the Sarıkız, Ayışığı, Yakamoz and Eldiven 2004 coup plans; in August 2013 he was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. Eruygur is also accused of founding the Republican Working Group (CÇG), an illegal organization similar to the Batı Çalışma Grubu (BÇG, West Working Group). Intervenor
In law, intervention is a procedure to allow a nonparty, called intervenor (also spelled intervener) to join ongoing litigation, either as a matter of right or at the discretion of the court, without the permission of the original litigants. The basic rationale for intervention is that a judgment in a particular case may affect the rights of nonparties, who ideally should have the right to be heard. Canada Intervenors are most common in appellate proceedings but can also appear at other types of legal proceeding such as a trial. Eşref Uğur Yiğit (born 1945 in İstanbul) is a Turkish admiral. He was commander-in-chief of the Turkish Navy from 30 August 2009 to 29 July 2011. He is a holder of the Turkish Armed Forces Medal of Distinguished Service. Metin Ataç (born 1946, İstanbul) is a Turkish Admiral. He was the 22nd Commander In Chief of the Turkish Navy, serving in that post from 24 August 2007 to 30 August 2009. Beykoz
Beykoz (), also known as Beicos and Beikos, is a district in Istanbul, Turkey at the northern end of the Bosphorus on the Anatolian side. The name is believed to be a combination of the words bey and ''kos'', which means "village" in Farsi. Beykoz includes an area from the streams of Küçüksu and Göksu (just before Anadoluhisarı) to the opening of the Bosphorus into the Black Sea, and the villages in the hinterland as far as the Riva creek.
