Emma Caroline Smith-Stanley (1805 – 26 April 1876) was the Countess of Derby as the wife of Edward Smith-Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby, who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom three times in the mid-19th century. The second daughter of Edward Bootle-Wilbraham, 1st Baron Skelmersdale, she married Edward Smith-Stanley in May 1825. The Stanley family (or Audley-Stanley family) is an English family with many notable members, including the Earls of Derby and the Barons Audley who descended from the early holders of Audley and Stanley, Staffordshire. Charles Chetwynd Chetwynd-Talbot, 2nd Earl Talbot, KG, PC, FRS (25 April 1777 – 10 January 1849), styled Viscount of Ingestre between 1784 and 1793, was a British politician and slave holder. He served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland between 1817 and 1821. Background and education Born as Charles Talbot, he was the eldest son of John Talbot of Ingestre Hall and his wife, Lady Charlotte Hill, a daughter of Wills Hill, 1st Marquess of Downshire. When John Talbot was created Earl Talbot and Viscount of Ingestre in 1784, Charles Talbot assumed the latter title as a courtesy title. His father also added Chetwynd to the family name in 1786. He inherited his father's earldom and the Ingestre estate in 1793, matriculated from Christ Church, Oxford in 1794 and graduated as a Master of Arts in 1797. Edward George Geoffrey Smith-Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby, (29 March 1799 – 23 October 1869, known before 1834 as Edward Stanley, and from 1834 to 1851 as Lord Stanley) was a British statesman, three-time Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and, to date, the longest-serving leader of the Conservative Party. Colonel Sir Wellington Patrick Manvers Chetwynd-Talbot (12 December 1817 – 23 September 1898) was a British Army officer who served as Serjeant at Arms of the House of Lords. Chetwynd-Talbot was the son of Charles Chetwynd-Talbot, 2nd Earl Talbot and Frances Thomasine Lambart. He was educated at Eton College and Sandhurst, and was commissioned an ensign in the 35th (Royal Sussex) Regiment of Foot on 19 December 1836. He purchased a lieutenancy in the 7th Regiment of Foot on 15 September 1837. On 29 March 1842, he purchased a captaincy in the regiment. From 1844 to 1845, he was comptroller of the household to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Lord Heytesbury. His father, then Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire, commissioned him a Major in the King's Own (1st Staffordshire) Militia on 4 April 1846.
