Elli (electoral Ward)
Elli is an electoral ward for Llanelli Town Council and Carmarthenshire County Council in Llanelli, Wales. The ward covers a residential area in the north of Llanelli, bounded to the south by Parc y Dref, to the east by Old Road and to the west by Llanelli Rural. The population of this ward at the 2011 census was 3,203. Representation Elli was an electoral ward to Dyfed County Council, represented by a Labour Party councillor from the 1989 election followed by a Liberal Democrat councillor from 1993. Since 1995 Elli has been an electoral ward to Carmarthenshire County Council, represented by one county councillor. Elli is also one of the community wards to Llanelli Town Council, electing two town councillors. Future Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Wales, Robert Buckland, began his political career when he won the Elli county seat by only 3 votes in 1993. A ward is a local authority area, typically used for electoral purposes. In some countries, wards are usually named after neighbourhoods, thoroughfares, parishes, landmarks, geographical features and in some cases historical figures connected to the area (e.g. William Morris Ward in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, England). Robert Buckland
Sir Robert James Buckland (born 22 September 1968) is a British politician who served as Secretary of State for Wales from July to October 2022. He previously served as Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor from 2019 to 2021. A member of the Conservative Party, he has been Member of Parliament (MP) for South Swindon since 2010. Buckland was Solicitor General for England and Wales from 2014 to 2019 and Minister of State for Prisons from May to July 2019. 2007 Welsh Assembly Election
The 2007 National Assembly for Wales election was held on Thursday 3 May 2007 to elect members to the National Assembly for Wales. It was the third general election. On the same day local elections in England and Scotland, as well as the Scottish Parliament election took place. This election was preceded by the previous Assembly election in 2003. The election saw Plaid Cymru make gains at the expense of Labour, although Labour remain the largest party in the Assembly, as they have since it began. Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire () is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. John Jenkins (Welsh Politician)
John Paul Jenkins (born 1981) is a local politician in Wales, in the United Kingdom. He is a county councillor for the Elli ward of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, and a town councillor for the same ward on Llanelli Town Council. He stood for election as a candidate of the Conservative Party for both authorities. Background Jenkins was educated at Graig Comprehensive School, Llanelli, before studying social policy at the University of Wales, Swansea. Political career Jenkins was elected at the local elections on 10 June 2004. As of 2006, he was the youngest elected representative in Carmarthenshire. Llanelli Town Council (Welsh - ''Cyngor Tref Llanelli'') is the community council that governs the majority of wards in Llanelli town. The Council is run by a group or groups who command the support of the majority of the elected representatives. The current leader is Labour's David Darkin. The council also appoints an annual ceremonial Mayor who presides over meetings of the Council who is known as the ''Mayor of Llanelli''.
