Electoral District Of Toowoomba South
Toowoomba South is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created with the 1972 redistribution, and replaced the abolished Toowoomba East. The electorate covers the eastern and inner southern suburbs of Toowoomba. It excludes the outer southern suburbs of Toowoomba, Drayton, Darling Heights and the other areas near the University of Southern Queensland, which fall in Condamine. It is part of the Darling Downs group of seats, and is bounded on the east by Lockyer, the north by Toowoomba North, and on the south and west by Condamine. The electorate was held by John McVeigh for the Liberal National Party, until his resignation on 29 April 2016 to contest the federal seat of Groom at the 2016 federal election. David Carl Janetzki (born 28 June 1978) is an Australian politician. John McVeigh (politician)
John Joseph McVeigh (born 13 May 1965) is a former Australian politician. He was elected to the House of Representatives at the 2016 federal election, representing the Division of Groom. He was a member of the Liberal National Party of Queensland and sat in the Liberal party room. During the Turnbull Government he served in cabinet as Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government from 2017 to 2018. He previously served in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 2012 to 2016 and was Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry under Premier Campbell Newman. Darling Downs
The Darling Downs is a farming region on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range in southern Queensland, Australia. The Downs are to the west of South East Queensland and are one of the major regions of Queensland. The name was generally applied to an area approximating to that of the Condamine River catchment upstream of Condamine township but is now applied to a wider region comprising the Southern Downs, Western Downs, Toowoomba and Goondiwindi local authority areas. The name Darling Downs was given in 1827 by Allan Cunningham, the first European explorer to reach the area and recognises the then Governor of New South Wales, Ralph Darling. Mike Horan
Michael James Horan, AM (born 1 July 1944) is a former Australian politician who represented the seat of Toowoomba South in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 18 May 1991 to 24 March 2012. Originally he was a member of the National Party of Australia, but follow its merger he is now a member of the Liberal National Party of Queensland until his retirement. Clive John Berghofer (born 4 March 1935) is an Australian property developer, politician and philanthropist. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly, Alderman and Mayor of Toowoomba. Peter Wood (4 November 1935 – 24 January 2010) was an Australian politician. Wood and his identical twin brother Bill were the sons of Les Wood, also a Labor politician.
