Elections in Trinidad and Tobago gives information on election and election results in Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad and Tobago (located in the Caribbean) elects on national level a House of Representatives (the Lower House of its legislature). The head of government the Prime Minister, is chosen from among the elected representatives on the basis of his/ her command of the support of the majority of legislators. The Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has two chambers. The House of Representatives has 41 members, elected for a maximum five-year term in single-seat constituencies. 2022 People's National Movement Leadership Election
The 2022 People's National Movement (PNM) leadership election, the last one for the PNM before the 2025 general election, has not yet been launched, but the current party leader and Prime Minister Keith Rowley has indicated he would most likely not seek to lead the party into the next general election. Rowley made these comments in his victory speech on the night of the 2020 Trinidad and Tobago general election, where the PNM secured a second mandate under his leadership but with the slimmest majority for a government in two decades. 2022 United National Congress Internal Election
The 2022 United National Congress internal election took place on 26 June 2022. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, political leader of the United National Congress, Leader of the Opposition of Trinidad and Tobago, former Prime Minister, and Member of Parliament for Siparia, went up for re-election with her slate of candidates on the Star Team. The Star Team ran unopposed for all but three three post in the UNC's national executive. These three candidates were independent and were not part of a slate of candidates. Fuad Khan, former Minister of Health in Persad-Bissessar's government and the former Member of Parliament for Barataria/ San Juan challenged Persad-Bissessar for the post for political leader of the party. December 2021 Tobago House Of Assembly Election
Snap House of Assembly elections were held in Tobago on 6 December 2021 to elect all 15 members of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA). The election was called following a deadlock created by the January 2021 elections which resulted in a tie between the People's National Movement (PNM) and the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP), with both parties winning six seats. As a result, the number of seats in the legislature was increased from 12 to 15 (an odd number) to avoid ties. House of Assembly elections were held in Tobago on 25 January 2021 where 12 members were elected in the eleventh election since the Assembly was established in 1980. 2019 Trinidadian Local Elections
Local elections in Trinidad and Tobago were held on 2 December 2019, contesting 139 electoral districts across Trinidad's 14 municipal corporation electoral areas. With the exception of those areas that have had boundary changes, the seats up for election were last contested in the 2016 local elections. Both parties won control of seven of the 14 corporations with the People's National Movement (PNM) losing their minority control status in the Sangre Grande regional corporation.
