Eagles (1984 Film)
''Eagles'' ( fa, عقابها, italic=yes) is a 1984 Iranian film about an Iranian pilot, Yadollah Sharifirad, whose aircraft shot down by Iraqi Air Force during Iran–Iraq War. The story is about his escape back to Iran. This movie is considered the first major war movie in Iranian cinema. It is estimated that 18 percent of Iranian population watched the movie at the time. Samuel Khachikian ( hy, Սամուէլ Խաչիկեան ; fa, ساموئل خاچیکیان; October 21, 1923 – October 22, 2001) was an Iranian film director, screenwriter, author, and film editor of Armenian descent. He was one of the most influential figures of Iranian cinema and was nicknamed "Iran's Hitchcock". Biography Born 1923 in Tabriz to a family of Armenian immigrants. Khachikian's father escaped the Armenian genocide in 1915 and settled in Tabriz. His mother admired cinema and the arts and often took her children to the theater. Yadollah Sharifirad
Yadollah Sharifirad ( fa, یدالله شریفیراد) (born 24 March 1946, in Taleqan) is an Iranian former fighter pilot, former military attaché and writer. In 1978, he was a member of Golden Crown aerobatic team. Sharifirad was one of the most successful Iranian Northrop F-5 pilots during the Iran-Iraq war. He shot down five Iraqi fighter aircraft (three confirmed and two possible). The victories include one Su-22 and four MiG-21s. In an air raid on an Iraqi power station, he was attacked by three Iraqi fighters and shot down. He ejected and was returned to Iran by Iraqi Kurdish guerrillas. A movie called ''Eagles'' was made about this event. From 1984 until 1987, Sharifirad served as a military attaché in Pakistan. In 1987, he was ordered back to Iran by the government; upon his return, Sharifirad was accused of spying for the United States and imprisoned for over a year before being released.
