Extra is an Australian free-to-air television channel launched on 26 March 2012. It broadcasts mainly infomercials, religion, community, educational, multi-cultural programming as well as stories taken from Nine Network programs including '' A Current Affair'', '' Getaway'', '' Today'' and '' Today Extra''. History On the Nine Network, the Extra brand was first used in Brisbane on a television news program, that was axed on 18 June 2009. Extra launched on 26 March 2012 on channel 94 in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Darwin and Northern NSW & Gold Coast on channel 84. Extra replaced WIN Corporation's datacast channel Gold, in both Adelaide and Perth, after both were purchased by Nine Entertainment in 2013. 576i is a standard-definition television, standard-definition digital video mode, originally used for Digitization, digitizing 625 lines, 625 line Analog television, analogue television in most countries of the world where the utility frequency for electric power distribution is 50 Hz. Because of its close association with the legacy colour encoding systems, it is often referred to as PAL#PAL region, PAL, PAL/SECAM or SECAM when compared to its 60 Hz (typically, see PAL-M) NTSC-colour-encoded counterpart, 480i. Getaway (TV Series)
''Getaway'' is Australia's longest-running travel and lifestyle television program. Debuting on 14 May 1992 in a Thursday 7:30pm time slot, it is broadcast on the Nine Network and TLC. Its main competitor was '' The Great Outdoors'' on the Seven Network until 2009. The first season looked at only tourism locally, including resorts and locations, but on 18 March 1993, it had expanded to look at international travel and tourism destinations. In 2011, the program was reduced to a 30-minute format and moved to Saturday afternoons at 5:30pm. Owned-and-operated Station
In the broadcasting industry, an owned-and-operated station (frequently abbreviated as an O&O) usually refers to a television or radio station owned by the network with which it is associated. This distinguishes such a station from an network affiliate, affiliate, which is independently owned and carries network programming by contract. The concept of an O&O is clearly defined in the United States and Canada (and to some extent, several other countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Argentina and Japan), where network-owned stations had historically been the exception rather than the rule. In such places, broadcasting licenses are generally issued on a local (rather than national) basis, and there is (or was) some sort of regulatory mechanism in place to prevent any company (including a broadcasting network) from owning stations in every market in the country. Standard-definition television (SDTV; also standard definition or SD) is a television system that uses a resolution that is not considered to be either high or enhanced definition. ''Standard'' refers to offering a similar resolution to the analog broadcast systems used when it was introduced. TV Tonight is an Australian-based website which features reviews, news and programming information related to television in Australia as well as OzTAM ratings information. The site was started by television critic David Knox in 2007 after listeners of his radio programs asked him for information they had missed. Knox runs the site, publishing his interviews with Australian media actors, producers, directors and programmers. Gold (stylised as GOLD) is an Australian advertorial datacasting channel that launched on 1 May 2012 by the WIN Corporation. It is available to homes in most regional WIN Television viewing areas on LCN 85. The channel broadcasts mostly infomercials, as well as education, lifestyle, community programming as well as television classics from the Crawfords library. History On 26 April 2012, a test broadcast commenced on LCN 84 with the channel name "TBA". WIN Corporation is a private Australian media company, that owns assets including the WIN Television network, Crawford Productions and several local radio stations. The company is based in Wollongong, New South Wales. History Founding The WIN brand began from a sole free-to-air terrestrial television station in Wollongong, WIN-4, owned by Television Wollongong Transmissions (TWT).
