Esther Kimani
Esther Kimani is a Kenyan engineer who developed a method of identifying diseases in crops using image analysis. Her awards included the 2024 Africa Prize For Engineering Innovation. Life Kimani was brought up in a farming family in a rural community in the mountains of Nyandarua in Kenya. She remembers how their crops could be lost to disease or how other farmers would spend money to apply the wrong chemical in fear of a ravaged crop. Farmers usually lose a third of their crop to diseases or pests in Kenya. On 8 September 2022, she was invited to an award ceremony where the Rwandan president Paul Kagame was a guest. It was the Africa Food Prize Awards Ceremony and she and Mark Musinguzi, founder of Hya Bioplastics in Uganda, shared the main prize of Ksh 6 million. She was also the 2022 Youth Adapt Winner. Africa Prize For Engineering Innovation
The Africa Prize For Engineering Innovation is an award for excellence in engineering in Sub-Saharan Africa. Eight months are set aside to help the contestants. The winner is awarded £25,000, with the second, third and fourth runners-up gaining £10,000 each. History The award was introduced in January 2014 by the Royal Academy of Engineering in the United Kingdom. Competitor engineers must be from Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2024 Esther Kimani was the winner of the prize and, because it was the award's tenth year, she was awarded £50,000. She was second winner from Kenya. Nyandarua
Nyandarua County is a county in the former Central Province of Kenya, with its capital and largest town being Ol Kalou. Formerly, the capital was Nyahururu, which is now part of Laikipia County. Nyandarua County had a population of 596,268 in 2009 and 638,289 in 2019 and covers an area of 3,304 km2. The county is located on the northwestern part of the old Central Province, and contains the Aberdare Ranges. Daniel Waithaka was elected the first governor of the County in the 2013 General Election, followed by Francis Kimemia, who was elected as the second governor in the August 2017 elections. Paul Kagame
Paul Kagame ( ; born 23 October 1957) is a Rwandan politician and former military officer who has been the President of Rwanda since 2000. He was previously a commander of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), a rebel armed force which invaded Rwanda in 1990. The RPF was one of the main belligerents of the Rwandan Civil War and was the armed force which ended the 1994's Rwandan genocide. She is the co-founder and CEO of Drop Access, a social enterprise that provides affordable and practical energy solutions for rural and underserved communities. She is widely recognized for developing the VacciBox, a solar-powered portable refrigerator designed to store and transport vaccines and other temperature-sensitive medical supplies in remote areas. The Demographics of Kenya is monitored by the Kenyan National Bureau of Statistics. Kenya is a multi-ethnic state in East Africa. Its total population was at 47,558,296 as of the 2019 census.
