Elias Mallet Da Rocha Barros
Elias Mallet da Rocha Barros (born 1946) is a Brazilian psychoanalyst. He is influenced by the Kleinian tradition, and has made significant contributions to the post- Bionian tradition of psychoanalysis. Biography Rocha Barros studied psychology at the University of São Paulo, and then went on to receive additional training in Paris and in London. He eventually trained as a psychoanalyst in Great Britain. His training analyst was Herbert Rosenfeld. He also worked with John Steiner at the Tavistock Clinic, before eventually returning to Brazil, where he has since worked as an analyst, and a training analyst. He has also worked for the IPA and the International Journal of Psychoanalysis. In 1999 he received the Sigourney Award. Melanie Klein
Melanie Klein (; ; Reizes; 30 March 1882 – 22 September 1960) was an Austrian-British author and psychoanalysis, psychoanalyst known for her work in child analysis. She was the primary figure in the development of object relations theory. Klein's work primarily focused on the role of ambivalence and moral ambiguity in human development. Klein suggested that pre-verbal existentialism, existential anxiety in infancy catalyzed the formation of the unconscious, which resulted in the unconscious splitting of the world into good and bad fantasy (psychology), idealizations. In her theory, how the child resolves that split depends on the constitution of the child and the character of nurturing the child experiences. The quality of resolution can inform the presence, absence, and/or type of distresses a person experiences later in life. Herbert Rosenfeld
Herbert Alexander Rosenfeld (2 July 1910 – 29 November 1986) was a German-British psychoanalyst. Rosenfeld made seminal contributions to Kleinian thinking on psychotic and other very ill patients; while his emphasis on the role of the analyst in contributing to potential impasses in the analytic encounter has had a wide impact on analysts both in Britain and internationally. Among his most significant contributions were his groundbreaking exploration of projective identification; the development of the concept of "confusion"; and the foundation of a theory of destructive narcissism, since taken up and developed by André Green and Otto Kernberg. John Steiner (born 1934) is a British psychoanalyst, author and trainer at the British Psychoanalytical Society. The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is a specialist mental health trust based in north London. The Trust specialises in talking therapies. The education and training department caters for 2,000 students a year from the United Kingdom and abroad. The Trust is based at the Tavistock Centre in Swiss Cottage. The founding organisation was the Tavistock Institute of Medical Psychology founded in 1920 by Hugh Crichton-Miller. International Psychoanalytical Association
The International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) is an association including 12,000 psychoanalysts as members and works with 70 constituent organizations. It was founded in 1910 by Sigmund Freud, from an idea proposed by Sándor Ferenczi. History In 1902 Sigmund Freud started to meet every week with colleagues to discuss his work, thus establishing the ''Psychological Wednesday Society''. By 1908 there were 14 regular members and some guests including Max Eitingon, Carl Jung, Karl Abraham, and Ernest Jones, all future Presidents of the IPA. The ''Society'' became the ''Vienna Psychoanalytical Society''. In 1907 Jones suggested to Jung that an international meeting should be arranged. Freud welcomed the proposal. ''The International Journal of Psychoanalysis'' is a bimonthly peer-reviewed academic journal covering the field of psychoanalysis. The idea of the journal was proposed by Ernest Jones in a letter to Sigmund Freud dated 7 December 1918. The journal itself was established in 1920, with Jones serving as editor-in-chief until 1939. It incorporates the ''International Review of Psycho-Analysis'', founded in 1974 by Joseph J. Sandler. It is run by the Institute of Psychoanalysis. Past editors have included Ernest Jones, James Strachey, Joseph Sandler, David Tuckett, and Dana Birksted-Breen. The current editor-in-chief is Francis Grier. Piera Aulagnier
Piera Aulagnier (; née Spairani, ; November 19, 1923 – March 31, 1990) was an Italian-born French psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. Her contributions to psychoanalysis include the concepts of interpretative violence, pictogram and originary process. Life and contributions Aulagnier was born in Milan in 1923, and trained in medicine at Rome, before finishing psychiatric training in Paris after 1950. She undertook a training analysis with Jacques Lacan from 1955 to 1961, and followed him in 1964 into the newly formed École freudienne de Paris, where she remained for some time a close confidant. Thomas Ogden (born December 4, 1946) is an American psychoanalyst and writer, of both psychoanalytic and fiction books, who lives and works in San Francisco, California. Biography Ogden received a BA from Amherst College, MA, and an MD from Yale, where he also completed a psychiatric residency. He served for a year as an Associate Psychiatrist at the Tavistock Clinic in London, and did his psychoanalytic training at the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute, where he has remained on the faculty.
