Edmonds, Washington
Edmonds is a city in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. It is located in the southwest corner of the county, facing Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains to the west. The city is part of the Seattle metropolitan area and is located north of Seattle and southwest of Everett. With a population of 42,853 residents in the 2020 U.S. census, Edmonds is the third most populous city in the county. Edmonds was established in 1876 by logger George Brackett, who bought the land claim of an earlier settler. It was incorporated as a city in 1890, shortly before the arrival of the Great Northern Railway. Early residents of the city were employed by the shingle mills and logging companies that operated in the area until the 1950s. The hills surrounding Edmonds were developed into suburban bedroom communities in the mid-to-late 20th century and subsequently annexed into the city. Edmonds station is a train station serving the city of Edmonds, Washington, in the United States. The station is served by Amtrak's ''Amtrak Cascades, Cascades'' and ''Empire Builder'' routes, as well as Sound Transit's N Line (Sound Transit), N Line, a Sounder commuter rail service which runs between Everett, Washington, Everett and Seattle. It is located west of Downtown Edmonds adjacent to the city's ferry terminal, served by the Edmonds–Kingston ferry, and a Community Transit bus station. Edmonds station has a passenger waiting room and a single platform. The station building was opened by the Great Northern Railway (U.S.), Great Northern Railway in 1957, replacing the city's older depot from 1910. Edmonds (brand)
Edmonds is a New Zealand brand of baking products and creator of the ''Edmonds Cookery Book''. It was founded in 1879 as a baking powder manufacturer by grocer Thomas Edmonds (manufacturer), Thomas Edmonds after hearing his customers complain about the available baking powder not always rising properly. He created his own formula and told his customers that his baking powder was "sure to rise", which later became a slogan of the brand. Edmonds later became part of Goodman Fielder. The ''Edmonds Cookery Book'' was first published in 1908 with the name ''Sure To Rise Cookery Book''. Edmonds Woodway High School is one of five high schools in the Edmonds School District in Edmonds, Washington, United States. It serves students in grades 9–12. It was ranked as the No. 318 high school in America by ''Newsweek Magazine'' in 2009. As of 2022, the principal is Allison Larsen. Edmonds College, formerly Edmonds Community College, is a public community college in Lynnwood, Washington. More than 17,000 students annually take courses for credit toward a certificate or degree at the college. The ''Edmonds Cookery Book'' is a recipe book by Edmonds that focuses on traditional New Zealand cuisine. It was first published as ''The Sure to Rise Cookery Book'' in 1908 as a marketing tool by baking powder manufacturer Thomas Edmonds (today part of Goodman Fielder), but it is now known as a Kiwi icon. The cookbook has been through many editions and reprints, adapting to changing tastes and new technology. Only two copies of the first (1908) edition are known to survive. In 1955, the first "De Luxe" edition was introduced. The 69th De Luxe edition was released in 2016. The 2012 edition has over 500 recipes. Since 1955, the front cover has featured the former Edmonds factory in Linwood, Christchurch (demolished in 1990). Spiral binding was introduced in 1976 to allow the book to stay open and flat. Edmonds is a neighbourhood in the southeast of Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. It is one of the city's four officially designated town centres. The area is served by the Expo Line of the SkyTrain via Edmonds station. The neighbourhood is named after businessman and politician Henry Valentine Edmonds, who owned real estate in the area and was active in local affairs.
