''Doña Bárbara (Lady Bárbara)'' is a novel by Venezuelan author Rómulo Gallegos, first published in 1929. Juan Vicente Gómez Chacón (24 July 1857 – 17 December 1935) was a Venezuelan military general, Politician and ruler of Venezuela from 1908 until his death in 1935. He was president on three occasions during this time, ruling through puppet governments in between. Important public works were carried out during his dictatorship. Caroline Parkhurst Lloyd (1924–1980) was an American composer and pianist. ''Doña Bárbara'' is a 1943 Mexican romantic drama film directed by Fernando de Fuentes and starring María Félix and Julián Soler.
