Michał Waszyński
Michał Waszyński (29 September 1904 – 20 February 1965) was first a film director in Poland, then in Italy, and later (as Michael Waszynski) a producer of major American films, mainly in Spain. Known for his elegance and impeccable manners, he was known by his acquaintances as "the prince". Waszyński was born as Mosze Waks into a Polish Jewish family in 1904 in Kowel, a small town in Volhynia (now in Ukraine), which at the time was part of Imperial Russia. As Germany occupied this part of Europe during World War I, he moved first to Warsaw and later to Berlin. As a young man he worked as an assistant director under the legendary German director F.W. Murnau. Upon his return to Poland he changed his name to Michał Waszyński and converted to Catholicism. In the 1930s Waszyński became the most prolific film director in Poland, directing 37 of the 147 films made in Poland in that decade, or one out of four. Władysław Grabowski (1 June 1883 – 6 July 1961) was a Polish film actor. He appeared in more than 35 films between 1911 and 1957, mainly in supporting comedy roles. Biography He was born on June 1, 1883 in Warsaw as the son of Władysław and Joanna née Szałowicz. A graduate of the Drama Class of the Warsaw Music Society. He made his debut in the theater in 1905. He performed on the stages of theaters in Łódź, Warsaw, Kraków and St. Petersburg. He made his cinema debut in 1911 as the rabbi's assistant in the film Meir Ezofowicz. He acted in many films of the interwar period. He was primarily a comedy actor. He died on July 6, 1961 in Warsaw and was buried in the Alley of Merit at the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw (grave 72). Alla Nikolayevna Bayanova (russian: Алла Николаевна Баянова; 18 May 1914 – 30 August 2011) was a Russian Romance singer sometimes compared with Édith Piaf for her simple yet dramatic style of performance. Bayanova was born in Kishinev in the family of an opera singer, who moved to Paris in 1918 after Bessarabia decided to unite with Romania. She debuted on the stage as an assistant to her father in 1923, aged nine. By 1927, she was already performing solo. A major step forward in her career was when she assisted Alexander Vertinsky in his famous show at the Hermitage Restaurant, Montmartre. Two years later, her family moved to Belgrade, while Bayanova went on touring Germany, Greece, Palestine, and Egypt. (née Mieczysława Trapszo, ; 1 January 1879 – 28 July 1972) was a Polish film actress, stage actor, and singer. She was often nicknamed Lińska or Amiette.
