Dingcheng, Ding'an County
Dingcheng () is a town and the county seat of Ding'an, in the northeast of Hainan Province, China. It has an area of and a population of 95,695 as of 2010. Historically, Dingcheng referred to the old town center beside the Nandu River. Around 2015, a newly developed part of Dingcheng is emerging to the southeast, extending to the east side of G98 Hainan Ring Expressway. This is commonly referred to as Taling and the original may be referred to as "Laocheng" (old town). Old and new parts Laocheng Laocheng (old town) is located directly on the south bank of the Nandu River. The east end is significantly newer and has a park and small stadium by the Nandu. The west end of the town contains many decades-old buildings and other structures, including a tunnel to the river, where a port once existed. Dinghai Bridge
Dinghai Bridge (in Chinese 定海大桥, and formerly 定马大桥) is an arch bridge over the Nandu River. The bridge connects Ding'an County on the south side of the Nandu, and Dongshan town in Xiuying District on the north. The bridge is located around 1 km west of Dingcheng and is the main access to that town from the north side of the Nandu. Dingcheng is located on the south side of the Nandu and is the main city in the county. Prior to 2017, there were two, makeshift wooden bridges connecting the north bank of the Nandu with the north of "Laocheng", the old part of Dingcheng. The new Dinghai Bridge replaces them and they are now closed. At the north end of the bridge, a road will eventually be built that will lead all the way north to Haikou. Nandu River
The Nandu River () is the longest river in Hainan Province, China. Its tributary is the Xinwu River. The river discharges into the Nandu River estuary at Haikou city, and then into Qiongzhou Strait. The river is 314 km long, with a discharge of 6.099 billion cubic metres. It passes the major settlements of Chengmai Zhen in Chengmai County then Dingcheng in Ding'an County. The river then turns north, goes over the Longtang Dam at Longtang, a somewhat smaller town than Chengmai and Ding'an. The Nandu then goes under several bridges, such as the Nandu River Iron Bridge and Qiongzhou Bridge. Once passed the Qiongzhou Bridge, at the southern tip of Xinbu Island, the Nandu flows north along the east side of Xinbu Island and out into the sea.
