Digital Library Of India
Digital Library of India, initially hosted by Indian Institute of Science, CDAC, Noida, IIIT-Hyderabad during 2000s working in partnership with the Million Book Project, provides free access to many books in English and Indian languages. The scanning of Indian language books has created an opportunity for developing Indian language optical character recognition (OCR) software. The publications are mainly in PDF or QuickTime format. Because of copyright laws, the texts are all out of copyright and therefore not sources for current information, but rather useful for history and background. , DLI had scanned 550,603 titles. Million Book Project
The Million Book Project (or the Universal Library) was a book digitization project led by Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science and University Libraries from 2007–2008. Working with government and research partners in India ( Digital Library of India) and China, the project scanned books in many languages, using OCR to enable full text searching, and providing free-to-read access to the books on the web. , they have completed the scanning of 1 million books and have made the entire catalog accessible online. Description The ''Million Book Project'' was a 501(c)3 charity organization with various scanning centers throughout the world. QuickTime
QuickTime is an extensible multimedia framework developed by Apple Inc., capable of handling various formats of digital video, picture, sound, panoramic images, and interactivity. Created in 1991, the latest Mac version, QuickTime X, is available for Mac OS X Snow Leopard up to macOS Mojave. Apple ceased support for the Windows version of QuickTime in 2016, and ceased support for QuickTime 7 on macOS in 2018. As of Mac OS X Lion, the underlying media framework for QuickTime, QTKit, was deprecated in favor of a newer graphics framework, AVFoundation, and completely discontinued as of macOS Catalina. Dosabhai Framji Karaka
Dosabhai Framji Karaka (1829–1902) was an Indian newspaper editor and official, known for his history of the Parsis. He was educated at the Elphinstone Institution. After editing a Gujarati paper, he became manager of the '' Bombay Times''. He spent 1858–9 in England, where he wrote ''The Parsis: their history, manners, customs, and religion''. Returning to India, he held a number of legal and official positions. He became chairman of the Bombay Municipal Corporation. He was selected Sheriff of Mumbai for 1872. His grandson, also known as Dosabhai Framji Karaka was also a journalist of much repute. Karaka became an active member of the Oxford Union, participating in debates. Traditional Knowledge Digital Library
The Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) is an Indian digital knowledge repository of the traditional knowledge, especially about medicinal plants and formulations used in Indian systems of medicine. History Set up in 2001, as a collaboration between the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and then- Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (India) the objective of the library is to protect the ancient and traditional knowledge of the country from exploitation through biopiracy and unethical patents, by documenting it electronically and classifying it as per international patent classification systems. Apart from that, the non-patent database serves to foster modern research based on traditional knowledge, as it simplifies access to this vast knowledge of remedies or practices. Panjab Digital Library
The Panjab Digital Library is a voluntary organization digitizing and preserving the cultural heritage of Panjab since 2003. With over 50 million digitized pages, it is the biggest resource of digital material on Panjab. There are many historically significant documents stored and made available online. Its scope covers Sikh and Punjabi culture. The library funded by The Nanakshahi Trust was launched online in August 2009. Its base office is located at Chandigarh, India.
