Marguerite Germaine Marie Donnadieu (, 4 April 1914 – 3 March 1996), known as Marguerite Duras (), was a French novelist, playwright, screenwriter, essayist, and experimental filmmaker. Her script for the film '' Hiroshima mon amour'' (1959) earned her a nomination for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards. Early life and education Duras was born Marguerite Donnadieu on 4 April 1914, in Gia Định, Cochinchina, French Indochina (now Vietnam). Her parents, Marie (née Legrand, 1877–1956) and Henri Donnadieu (1872–1921), were teachers from France who likely had met at Gia Định High School. They both had previous marriages. Marguerite had two older brothers: Pierre, the elder, and Paul. Duras' father fell ill and he returned to France, where he died in 1921. Between 1922 and 1924, the family lived in France while her mother was on administrative leave. Lucie Madeleine Renaud (; 21 February 1900 – 23 September 1994) was a French actress best remembered for her work in the theatre. She did though appear in several films directed by Jean Grémillon including '' Remorques'' (''Stormy Waters'', 1941) and ''Lumière d'été'' (''Summer Light'', 1943). Personal life Renaud had a son, Jean-Pierre Granval (10 December 1923 – 28 May 1998), by her first marriage to Charles Granval. In 1940, Renaud married her second husband, actor-director Jean-Louis Barrault (1910 – 1994). They remained married until his death in 1994. She died the same year. The couple acted together and co-founded a number of theater companies, touring extensively throughout North and South America. Jean-Pierre Aumont (born Jean-Pierre Philippe Salomons; 5 January 1911 – 30 January 2001) was a French actor, and holder of the Légion d'Honneur and the Croix de Guerre for his World War II military service. Early life Aumont was born Jean-Pierre Philippe Salomons in Paris, the son of Suzanne (née Cahen; 1885–1940), an actress, and Alexandre Salomons, owner of ''La Maison du Blanc'' (a linen department store). Néstor Almendros Cuyás, (30 October 1930 – 4 March 1992) was a Spanish cinematographer.
