Das (translation: "devotes of God" is a common last name in South Asia, among adherents of Hinduism and Sikhism, as well as those who converted to Islam or Christianity. It is a derived from the Sanskrit word Dasa (Sanskrit: दास) meaning servant, "devotee", or "votary". "Das" may be inferred to be one who has surrendered to God. Nowdays it is used in upnaam (Surname) of Vaishnav. In Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand, the surname "Das" is used by the Kayasthas, Mahishya, Dhobi and Patni communities. Gopal (caste)
Gopal or Gauda is an Indian caste, which is a synonym of Ahir from Odisha State in East India. Their traditional occupation include dairy farming, cattle herding, cultivation and carrying palanquins of deities. They also worked as Paikas (soldiers) under the kings. They claim Kshatriya status and in hierarchy, they occupy the rank next to Khandayats. They also owned Zamindaris in Ranapura, Nayagarh and Khandapara regions of Odisha. Bhagavan Das (Theosophy)
Bhagwan Das (12 January 1869 – 18 September 1958) was an Indian Theosophist and public figure. For a time he served in the Central Legislative Assembly of British India. He became allied with the Hindustani Culture Society and was active in opposing rioting as a form of protest. As an advocate for national freedom from the British rule, he was often in danger of reprisals from the Colonial government. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1955. Arjun Das is an Indian actor who works in Tamil films. Best known for his role as ''Anbu'' in the film ''Kaithi'' (2019), he has garnered major attention for his bass-baritone voice. Amil Kumar Das
Anil Kumar Das FRAS, FNI (1 February 1902 - 18 February 1961) was an Indian scientist, astronomer. During the International Geophysical Year, observatories in Madrid, India, and Manila were responsible for monitoring solar effects. The Kodaikanal Solar Observatory in South India performed this monitoring using their recently built solar tunnel telescope. Das was the director of the Kodaikanal observatory at this time. In 1960 he was responsible for installing a tower/tunnel telescope at the facility that would be used to perform some of the first helioseismology investigations.
