Iron Maiden are an English heavy metal band formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. While fluid in the early years of the band, the lineup for most of the band's history has consisted of Harris, lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson, drummer Nicko McBrain, and guitarists Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers. The band have released 41 albums, including 17 studio albums, 13 live albums, four EPs and seven compilations. They have also released 47 singles and 20 video albums. As pioneers of the new wave of British heavy metal movement, Iron Maiden achieved initial success during the early 1980s. Eddie The Head
Eddie (also known as Eddie the Head) is the mascot for the English heavy metal band Iron Maiden. He is a perennial fixture of the group's artwork, appearing in all of their album covers (as well as most of their singles) and in their merchandise, which includes T-shirts, posters and action figures. On top of this, Eddie features in all of the band's concerts, as well as in the first-person shooter video game, ''Ed Hunter'', the mobile game, ''Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast'' and a pinball game with the same name in 2018. Originally a papier-mâché mask used in Iron Maiden's stage backdrop, the band transferred the name "Eddie" from the mask to an illustration by Derek Riggs, which was used as the band's debut album cover. Although he is occasionally described as "zombie-like" in the press, Eddie assumes a different guise relating to the themes of individual albums and their corresponding world tours, and has appeared as a cyborg, an Egyptian mummy and a lobotomised mental pa ...

The Number Of The Beast (album)
''The Number of the Beast'' is the third studio album by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It was released on 22 March 1982 in the United Kingdom by EMI Records and in the United States by Harvest and Capitol Records. The album was their first to feature vocalist Bruce Dickinson and their last with drummer Clive Burr. ''The Number of the Beast'' was met with critical and commercial success, and became the band's first album to top the UK Albums Chart and reach the top 40 of the US ''Billboard'' 200. The album produced the singles " Run to the Hills" and " The Number of the Beast", the former of which became the band's first top-ten UK single. The album was also controversial, particularly in the United States, due to the religious references in its artwork and the title track's lyrics. Since the release of ''The Number of the Beast'', "The Beast" has become an alternate name for Iron Maiden and was later used in the titles of some of their compilations and live releases, i ...

Hallowed Be Thy Name (song)
"Hallowed Be Thy Name" is the final track on Iron Maiden's 1982 album '' The Number of the Beast''. The song was written by bassist Steve Harris and has been acclaimed as one of the greatest heavy metal songs of all time and is also considered one of the band's signature songs. Synopsis "Hallowed Be Thy Name" has remained in almost all of the band's set-lists since the album's recording, the only exceptions being the Maiden England World Tour 2012–14, and the second leg of the Book of Souls World Tour in 2017. Allmusic describes it as "perhaps the most celebrated of the band's extended epics; it's the tale of a prisoner about to be hanged, featuring some of Harris' most philosophical lyrics." Several band-members have since stated that it is one of their favourite tracks, with Bruce Dickinson describing it as "fantastic" and that performing it live is like "narrating a movie to the audience." It is one of the most covered songs in Iron Maiden's catalogue, with versions re ...

The X Factor (album)
''The X Factor'' is the tenth studio album by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 2 October 1995 through EMI Records. CMC International released the album in North America. It is the first of two albums by the band to include Blaze Bayley, formerly of Wolfsbane, as vocalist, replacing Bruce Dickinson who left the band following their previous tour to pursue a solo career. It also saw the departure of the band's longtime producer Martin Birch, who retired shortly after the release of their previous album, ''Fear of the Dark'' (1992). The album takes a darker tone than the band's first nine releases, due to the lyrics being based on personal issues surrounding Steve Harris at the time, who was in the midst of a divorce. This is reflected in the cover artwork, which graphically depicts the band's mascot, Eddie, being vivisected by a machine. Background The album title came about at the start of the recording. According to producer Nigel Green: "We all felt that t ...

Like '' The Number of the Beast'' (1982) and later ''Fear of the Dark'' (1992), ''The Final Frontier'' (2010), and '' The Book of Souls'' (2015), the album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart. The lead single "Can I Play with Madness" was also a commercial success, peaking at No. 3 in the UK Singles Chart. A concept album inspired by the novel '' Seventh Son'' by Orson Scott Card, the record incorporates elements of progressive rock, seen in the length and complex structure of the title track.
