General Douglas Hamilton (8 April 1818 – 20 January 1892) was a British Indian Army officer, gazetted to the 21st Regiment of the Madras Native Infantry from 1837 to 1871. He was a well known surveyor of the early British hill stations in South India and a famous sportsman, shikari, big-game hunter and trophy collector. He was an acute observer of nature and a gentleman. He legitimately shot more game in the Nilgiri Hills than any other sportsman.Hamilton, p. xxxviii Family Hamilton was born on 8 April 1818, and educated at Harrow School. He was the youngest of eight sons of Charles Hamilton esq. of Sudbury Grove, Middlesex, and of Kensworth House, Hertfordshire. Douglas Hamilton, 8th Duke of Hamilton, 5th Duke of Brandon and 2nd Baron Hamilton of Hameldon, (24 July 1756 – 2 August 1799) was a Scottish peer, nobleman, and politician. Life Hamilton was born at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the son of the 6th Duke of Hamilton and his wife, Elizabeth Gunning. He attended Eton from 1763 to 1767 and on the death of his brother in 1769, he succeeded to the title of Duke of Hamilton. He also inherited his mother's title of Baron Hamilton of Hameldon when she died in 1790. Between 1772 and 1776, he lived in Europe with Dr. John Moore and his son, the future Lieutenant-Colonel Sir John Moore, hero of Corunna. On his return, aged 21, he married the beautiful Elizabeth Anne Burrell (b. 20 April 1757), fourth daughter of Peter Burrell, in London on 5 April 1778. Douglas Hamilton (4 March 1947 - 24 December 2012) was a Reuters foreign correspondent. Douglas Matthew Hamilton was born in Fife, Scotland. A dual Canadian-British citizen, he was known for his writing on the fall of the Berlin Wall, and regime changes in Czechoslovakia and Romania, the breakup and wars of succession of Yugoslavia, the rise and fall of dictators in Africa and the effects of the 2009 Israeli offensive on Gaza. His assignments included reporting from the Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo wars, from behind the scenes at the EU and NATO and from the front lines of the Iraq, Lebanon, Libya and Syria conflicts. Douglas Jonathan Hamilton Jr. (born June 17, 1993) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman for the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously played in the NHL for the Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, and Carolina Hurricanes. The Bruins selected him in the first round, ninth overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
