Paul Dirac
Paul Adrien Maurice Dirac ( ; 8 August 1902 – 20 October 1984) was an English mathematician and Theoretical physics, theoretical physicist who is considered to be one of the founders of quantum mechanics. Dirac laid the foundations for both quantum electrodynamics and quantum field theory. He was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and a professor of physics at Florida State University. Dirac shared the 1933 Nobel Prize in Physics with Erwin Schrödinger for "the discovery of new productive forms of atomic theory". Dirac graduated from the University of Bristol with a first class honours Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1921, and a first class honours Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics in 1923. Dirac then graduated from the University of Cambridge with a PhD in physics in 1926, writing the first ever thesis on quantum mechanics. Dirac (named after Paul Dirac; own notation DIRAC) is a relativistic ab initio quantum chemistry program. The full name is ''Program for Atomic and Molecular Direct Iterative Relativistic All-electron Calculations'', in short PAM DIRAC. It is capable of calculating various molecular properties using the Hartree–Fock, MP2, density functional theory, configuration interaction and coupled cluster electronic structure theories. Gabriel Andrew Dirac
Gabriel Andrew Dirac (13 March 1925 – 20 July 1984) was a Hungarian-British mathematician who mainly worked in graph theory. He served as Erasmus Smith's Professor of Mathematics at Trinity College Dublin from 1964 to 1966. In 1952, he gave a sufficient condition for a graph to contain a Hamiltonian circuit. The previous year, he conjectured that n points in the plane, not all collinear, must span at least \lfloor n/2\rfloor two-point lines, where \lfloor x\rfloor is the largest integer not exceeding x. This conjecture was proven for n is sufficiently large by Green and Tao in 2012. Education Dirac started his studies at St John's College, Cambridge in 1942, but in that same year, the war saw him serving in the aircraft industry. The dirac (see Baati for the house dress) is a Somali garment worn by Somali women that is long, usually ankle length. The Dirac was designed for the harsh hot weather of Somalia hence its name which comes from the Somali term which means "Protector" or "Protection" and is also a popular boys name "diric" (protector) ,like in Sayid Mohammed Abdulle Hassan's infamous mobilization poem against the British: "Waaka fircoon so dareersaday diracyadiisiye" which translate as " See the Pharaoh calling upon his protectors! Dirac (video Compression Format)
Dirac (and Dirac Pro, a subset standardised as SMPTE VC-2) is an open and royalty-free video compression format, specification and software video codec developed by BBC Research & Development. Dirac aimed to provide high-quality video compression for Ultra HDTV and competed with existing formats such as H.264. The specification was finalised in January 2008, and further developments were only bug fixes and constraints. In September of that year, version 1.0.0 of an I-frame only subset known as Dirac Pro was released and was standardised by the SMPTE as VC-2. Version 2.2.3 of the full Dirac specification, including motion compensation and inter-frame coding, was issued a few days later. Dirac Pro was used internally by the BBC to transmit HDTV pictures at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
