Dethklok is a fictional melodic death metal band featured in the Adult Swim animated television series ''Metalocalypse'', known for its satirical or parodic lyrical themes. The first official Dethklok album was released on September 25, 2007, entitled '' The Dethalbum''. The album debuted at number 21 on ''Billboard'' magazine's Top 200 list. The band released '' Dethalbum II'' on September 29, 2009, and toured with Mastodon, High on Fire, and Converge. The band's third album, '' Dethalbum III'', was released on October 16, 2012. ''Metalocalypse'' is an American Musical film, musical adult animated television series created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha for Adult Swim. It premiered on August 6, 2006. The television program centers on the larger-than-life melodic death metal band Dethklok, and often portrays dark and macabre content, including such subjects as violence, death, and the drawbacks of fame, with hyperbole, hyperbolic black comedy. The show was widely heralded as both a parody and a pastiche of heavy metal culture. The music, written by guitarist/creator Brendon Small, was credited to the band and featured in most episodes. Brendon Small (born February 15, 1975) is an American actor, stand-up comedian, writer, director, producer, and musician who is known for co-creating the animated series ''Home Movies'' (1999–2004, with Loren Bouchard) and ''Metalocalypse'' (2006–2013, with Tommy Blacha). He also writes the music, and is the main performer for the fictional melodic death metal band Dethklok, which began as the subject of ''Metalocalypse'' but has taken on a life of its own, with four albums and an occasional live touring band, headed by Small. Small has also released two albums under his own name, in a similar musical style to Dethklok. Early life and education Small was born in Illinois in 1975. He moved to California as a child. The CD and deluxe CD/DVD were released on October 16, 2012. It contains music from the second, third and fourth seasons of the show. ''Dethalbum II'' is the second full length album by virtual band Dethklok, from the animated series '' Metalocalypse''. The CD and deluxe CD/DVD were released on September 29, 2009. The album was later released on LP to the United States and Canada. Background The album was recorded at Bombshelter Studios and "The Danger Zone" in Los Angeles. The deluxe edition includes a bonus DVD with 52 minutes of never-before-released music videos featured in the 2008 Dethklok tour. Two bonus tracks were originally promised for the deluxe edition of the album; however, Brendon Small had never recorded or planned to include bonus tracks. The announcement was a marketing error. ''The Dethalbum'' is the debut album by virtual band Dethklok, from American animated sitcom ''Metalocalypse''. It was released on September 25, 2007. The album features full length songs from the TV series, as well as previously unreleased tracks. Antonio Canobbio contributed the artwork for the record. The deluxe edition of the album includes an additional disc that features seven bonus tracks, the video for "Bloodrocuted" and the first ''Metalocalypse'' episode of the second season. A vinyl LP was released with a bonus track in July 2008. A tour band, using session metal musicians and headed by Brendon Small, was created to promote the album. ''Brendon Small's Galaktikon II: Become the Storm'' is the second solo album by Brendon Small, known for his work on the animated television shows ''Metalocalypse'' and ''Home Movies'', and as creator of virtual death metal band Dethklok. The album was released on August 25, 2017 through Megaforce Records. The album features Dethklok members Gene Hoglan and Bryan Beller, on drums and bass, respectively. High on Fire is an American heavy metal band from Oakland, California, that was formed in 1998. Matt Pike, the band's frontman and founder, also plays guitar for Sleep. High on Fire won the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance with their song "Electric Messiah".
