Denis Murphy (April 2, 1842 – March 10, 1917 ) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented the riding of Ottawa (Ontario provincial electoral district), Ottawa in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, Conservative member from 1902 to 1904. His first name appears as Dennis in some sources. There is some question as to what year he was born. His gravestone says he was born in 1840, but his obituary in ''The Ottawa Evening Citizen'' newspaper, Monday, March 12, 1917, said he was born in 1842. He is buried in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He was born in County Cork, Ireland, the son of Jeremiah Murphy and Ellen Sullivan, and was educated in Brownsburg-Chatham, Quebec, Chatham, Argenteuil County, Quebec, Argenteuil County, Canada East. Denis John Francis Murphy (June 28, 1830June 19, 1901) was an American farmer and soldier. He received the Medal of Honor for actions taken in service of the Union Army during the American Civil War. Biography Murphy was born in County Cork, Ireland. He married Bridget McGinnis. He and his wife owned a family farm in Glenmore (De Pere), and moved into Green Bay after the war—his injuries making it no longer possible to continue farming. He died on June 19, 1901, in Green Bay. He is buried in the Murphy Family Plot (along with his wife, parents, several of his 11 children and other relatives at the Allouez Catholic Cemetery in nearby Allouez, Wisconsin. Denis Murphy (14 November 1910 – 7 April 1974) was an Irish fiddler and traditional musician. Murphy was born in Lisheen, Gneeveguilla, County Kerry one of eight children of Bill and Mainie (née Corbett) Murphy. His father played fife, flute and fiddle and had a fife and drum band. It was a house where music was played a lot with neighbours calling in. He and his sister Julia Clifford were taught fiddle by Pádraig O'Keeffe. He later played with the Lisheen Fife and Drum Band. Murphy married Julia Mary Sheehan on 7 April 1942 and in 1949 they emigrated to New York City, where Denis worked in various jobs and was active in the music scene. They returned home in 1952, went back again and finally settled back in Lisheen in 1965. Denis Murphy (born 1939) is an Irish former hurler who played as a left corner-back at senior level for the Cork county team. Born in Donoughmore, County Cork, Murphy first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St Colman's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when he first linked up with the Cork junior team. He made his senior debut during the 1960 championship. Murphy immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medal, two Munster medals and one National Hurling League medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Murphy won two Railway Cup medals. Denis Murphy (born 1990) is an Irish hurler who plays as a full-forward for the Carlow senior team. Born in Borris, County Carlow, Murphy first played competitive hurling whilst at school in Borris Vocational School. He made his first impression on the inter-county scene as a dual player at minor level before later joining the under-21 hurling team. He made his senior debut during the 2010 championship. Denis Murphy (June 30, 1870 – May 1, 1947) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in British Columbia. After being an unsuccessful candidate in the 1886 provincial election and an 1893 provincial byelection, he represented Yale-West in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1900 to 1902. He was born in Lac La Hache, British Columbia, the son of Denis Murphy and Helen White, and was educated at Ottawa University. Murphy was called to the British Columbia bar in 1896. He practised in Victoria for about a year and then moved to Ashcroft, where he practised until 1909. In 1900, he married Maude Cameron. He was named to the provincial cabinet by Premier Edward Gawler Prior as Provincial Secretary and Minister of Education in November 1902, but resigned his cabinet posts a few days later. Denis Murphy (born 2 November 1948) is a Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wansbeck from 1997 until 2010. Early life He attended the (Roman Catholic) St Cuthbert's Grammar School on ''Gretna Road'' in Newcastle upon Tyne. He then attended Northumberland College in Ashington. He had previously led Wansbeck District Council. He is a member of the NUM and was the only member of the 1997 parliamentary intake to be backed by that union.
