Dark Passion Play
''Dark Passion Play'' is the sixth studio album by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. It was released on 26 September 2007 by Spinefarm Records in Finland, 28 September by Nuclear Blast in Europe and 2 October 2007 by Roadrunner Records in the US. It is the first album without original vocalist Tarja Turunen, who was dismissed in 2005, as well as the first album involving future member Troy Donockley on uilleann pipes and tin whistle. It is the first of only two albums with vocalist Anette Olzon, who was eventually dismissed in 2012 after the release of the band's subsequent album, '' Imaginaerum''. Tuomas Holopainen has referred to this album as the "album that saved his life". The song " Eva" was leaked on the Internet six days before its official release, prompting the band to release it earlier as a promotional single to boost downloads. Nightwish
Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band from Kitee. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former lead singer Tarja Turunen. The band soon picked up drummer Jukka Nevalainen, and then bassist Sami Vänskä after the release of their debut album, ''Angels Fall First'' (1997). In 2001, Vänskä was replaced by Marko Hietala, who also took over the male vocalist role previously filled by Holopainen or guest singers. Although Nightwish have been prominent in their home country since ''Angels Fall First'', they did not achieve wider success until the release of the albums ''Oceanborn'' (1998), ''Wishmaster (album), Wishmaster'' (2000) and ''Century Child'' (2002). Erämaan Viimeinen
"Erämaan Viimeinen" (English: ''Last of the Wilds'') is a single by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, released on December 5, 2007. It is the same song as the instrumental "Last of the Wilds" from the band's album ''Dark Passion Play'', but with Finnish lyrics and Jonsu from Indica on vocals, and became the second single from the album after "Amaranth". The single was not, like the earlier single " Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan", released outside Finland, where it peaked at number one in the charts. On January 20, 2010, German magazine ''Metal Hammer'' released the CD exclusively with the magazine in German-speaking countries, featuring the CD plus two versions of "Escapist". The song is also included on the Platinum Edition of ''Dark Passion Play''. "Erämaan viimeinen" is not an exact replica of "Last of the Wilds". "Eva" is the fourth promotional single by Finns, Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Lifted from their sixth studio album ''Dark Passion Play'', this was the first release to feature Anette Olzon, following Tarja Turunen's departure in 2005. Initially the single was only released on the Internet and radio, with a release date of 30 May 2007, together with the revealing of the identity of the new vocalist (Anette Olzon), but due to a leak on 23 May, the vocalist's identity was revealed on 24 May, and the song was released on the 25th. Officially, "Eva" started to play on Finland, Finnish radio stations ''YleX'' and ''Radio Rock'' at 07:00 on 25 May, and was available as a download the same day. Anette Olzon
Anette Ingegerd Olsson (born 21 June 1971), known by the stage name Anette Olzon, is a Swedish singer, best known as the former lead vocalist of Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish from 2007 to 2012. She is also the vocalist of Swedish classic rock band Alyson Avenue, and of the Finnish heavy metal band The Dark Element. Early life Olzon was raised in a musical family and has been singing since childhood. Her mother also forced her to play the oboe for eight years. The uilleann pipes ( or , ), also known as Union pipes and sometimes called Irish pipes, are the characteristic national bagpipe of Ireland. Their current name is a partial translation of the Irish language terms (literally, "pipes of the elbow"), from their method of inflation. There is no historical record of the name or use of the term ''uilleann pipes'' before the 20th century. It was an invention of W. H. Grattan Flood, Grattan Flood and the name stuck. Troy Donockley
Troy Donockley (born 30 May 1964) is an English composer and multi-instrumentalist most known for his playing of Uilleann pipes. Having performed with many artists as a session player, he is most notable as a member of Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, which he has performed with since 2007 and joined as a full-time member in 2013. Early life and career Donockley was born in Workington, Cumberland; his parents were members of a band called Travelling Country. At the age of 16, Troy joined them, playing at many venues in West Cumbria. His father's record collection was broad and gave his son a love of classical, rock, country as well as traditional music. He is a multi-instrumentalist and a master of the Uilleann pipes. His ambition as a teenager was to travel the world as a musician, but he hated "empty pop created by cynical twerps". Tarja Turunen
Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen-Cabuli (born 17 August 1977), known professionally as Tarja Turunen or simply Tarja, is a Finnish Heavy metal music, heavy metal singer, best known as the former lead vocalist of Nightwish. Turunen studied lyrical singing at Sibelius Academy and Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. She is a professional classical lied singer with a three-octave vocal range, and founded symphonic metal band Nightwish with Tuomas Holopainen and Emppu Vuorinen in 1996. Their combination of hard and fast guitar riffs with Turunen's dramatic, "operatic" lead vocals quickly achieved critical and commercial popularity.
