''Cyrtopholis'' is a genus of tarantulas that was first described by Eugène Louis Simon in 1892. Diagnosis This genus can be distinguished by being found in the Caribbean, and by the presence of claviform stridulatory hairs on the trochanter of the pedipalps and the legs I. They also own type 1 and 3 urticating hairs on the abdomen. The spermatheca of females is formed by 2 long receptacles with no fusion at the base. Species it contains twenty-four species, found in the Caribbean and South America: *''Cyrtopholis agilis'' Pocock, 1903 – Hispaniola *'' Cyrtopholis anacanta'' Franganillo, 1935 – Cuba *''Cyrtopholis annectans'' Chamberlin, 1917 – Barbados *''Cyrtopholis bartholomaei'' ( Latreille, 1832) – St. Thomas, Antigua *''Cyrtopholis bonhotei'' ( F. Cyrtopholis Femoralis
''Cyrtopholis femoralis'' is a tarantula species in the '' Cyrtopholis'' genus, it was first described by Reginald Innes Pocock in 1903, it is found in Montserrat, gaining it its common name as the Montserrat tarantula. It is possible that ''Cyrtopholis femoralis'' may be made up of two species occupying distinct areas of Montserrat, investigating the presence of this species is important for the understanding of this species. The main known predator of this species is Leptodactylus fallax, known as the mountain chicken, or the giant ditch frog. Description Females grow to about 40mm, and their lifespan is not known. This species color is a deep chestnut to greyish sometimes black color on their legs and body, with some lighter leg joints. With some pale brown to grey on the lower segments, though some darker specimens have been registered. Observation from captive individuals have shown their egg sack to be about 220 eggs. Habitat This spider is thought to have been widesp ...

Type Species
In zoological nomenclature, a type species (''species typica'') is the species name with which the name of a genus or subgenus is considered to be permanently taxonomically associated, i.e., the species that contains the biological type specimen(s). Article 67.1 A similar concept is used for suprageneric groups and called a type genus. In botanical nomenclature, these terms have no formal standing under the code of nomenclature, but are sometimes borrowed from zoological nomenclature. In botany, the type of a genus name is a specimen (or, rarely, an illustration) which is also the type of a species name. The species name that has that type can also be referred to as the type of the genus name. Names of genus and family ranks, the various subdivisions of those ranks, and some higher-rank names based on genus names, have such types.

Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico (; abbreviated PR; tnq, Boriken, ''Borinquen''), officially the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico ( es, link=yes, Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico, lit=Free Associated State of Puerto Rico), is a Caribbean island and unincorporated territory of the United States. It is located in the northeast Caribbean Sea, approximately southeast of Miami, Florida, between the Dominican Republic and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and includes the eponymous main island and several smaller islands, such as Mona, Culebra, and Vieques. It has roughly 3.2 million residents, and its capital and most populous city is San Juan. Alexander Petrunkevitch
Alexander Ivanovitch Petrunkevitch ( Russian: Александр Иванович Петрункевич, December 22, 1875 in Plysky near Kyiv, now Ukraine – March 9, 1964 in New Haven) was an eminent Russian arachnologist of his time. From 1910 to 1939 he described over 130 spider species. One of his most famous essays was "The Spider and the Wasp." In it he uses effective word choices and some comic touch. Biography His aristocratic father, Ivan Illitch Petrunkevitch, was a liberal member of the First Duma and founded the Constitutional Democratic Party. After finishing his studies in Moscow and in Freiburg under August Weismann, Alexander settled in Yale in 1910, becoming a full professor in 1917. Apart from describing present-day species, he was a major figure in the study of fossil arachnids, including those in amber and from the Coal Measures. He also experimented with live specimens and worked on insects. Professor Petrunkevitch's formulation of the prin ...

Frederick Octavius Pickard-Cambridge
Frederick Octavius Pickard-Cambridge (3 November 1860 – 9 February 1905) was an English arachnologist. He is sometimes confused with his uncle, Octavius Pickard-Cambridge (1828–1917), who was also an arachnologist and from whom F. O. Pickard-Cambridge picked up his enthusiasm for the study of spiders. Life F. O. Pickard-Cambridge was born in Warmwell, Dorset, where his father was rector. He became a curate at St Cuthbert's church in Carlisle for a few years after having been educated at Sherborne School and Exeter College, Oxford. He left to become a professional biological illustrator, and in 1894–1895 spent several months in the Amazon as a naturalist on board the SS ''Faraday''. He found much of interest on his voyage and began writing papers in 1896 to describe the spiders he discovered. He had a promising career ahead of him, but this promise was not to be fulfilled. Bristowe, writing in the book ''British Spiders'', 1951, said of this time in F. O. Pickard-C ...

Pierre André Latreille
Pierre André Latreille (; 29 November 1762 – 6 February 1833) was a French zoologist, specialising in arthropods. Having trained as a Roman Catholic priest before the French Revolution, Latreille was imprisoned, and only regained his freedom after recognising a rare beetle species he found in the prison, ''Necrobia ruficollis''. He published his first important work in 1796 (), and was eventually employed by the . His foresighted work on arthropod systematics and taxonomy gained him respect and accolades, including being asked to write the volume on arthropods for George Cuvier's monumental work, , the only part not by Cuvier himself. Latreille was considered the foremost entomologist of his time, and was described by one of his pupils as "the prince of entomologists". Biography Early life Pierre André Latreille was born on 29 November 1762 in the town of Brive, then in the province of Limousin, as the illegitimate child of Jean Joseph Sahuguet d'Amarzit, général baro ...
