Cyprus In The Eurovision Song Contest 2005
Cyprus participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with the song "Ela Ela (Come Baby)" written and performed by Constantinos Christoforou, who was selected by the Cypriot broadcaster Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) in November 2004 to represent Cyprus at the 2005 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. CyBC organised a national final on 1 February 2005 in order to select the Cypriot song. The national final featured four songs and resulted in the selection of "Ela Ela" as the winning song. As one of the ten highest placed finishers in 2004, Cyprus automatically qualified to compete in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Constantinos Christoforou
Constantinos Christophorou (Κωνσταντίνος Χριστοφόρου, born in Limassol, Cyprus on 25 April 1977) is a Greek-Cypriot singer. He represented Cyprus in Eurovision Song Contest as a solo singer with " Mono Yia Mas" (1996) and " Ela Ela (Come Baby)" (2005) and as part of the boy band formation One with " Gimme" (2002). Career Constantinos Christoforou was still a student when his first single, "Tora pou milas" was released in 1994. His first album, ''O, ti m'afora'' was released in 1996. Hi-5 was a Greek pop girl group formed in Athens in 2003 through the Greek version of the reality TV show Popstars. The group consisted of Marlain Angelides, Frosso Papacharalambous, Nancy Stergiopoulou, Irini Psixrami and Shaya. The band had a large fanbase in Greece and Cyprus. They disbanded in March 2005. The Eurovision Song Contest 1992 was the 37th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Malmö, Sweden, following the country's victory at the with the song "" by Carola. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (SVT), the contest was held at the Malmö Isstadion on 9 May 1992 and was hosted by Swedish journalists Lydia Capolicchio and Harald Treutiger. Twenty-three countries took part in the contest with the returning after being absent the year before. This set another record for the most participating countries in the history of the competition, which would be broken again the following year. Background The song is a boy band number, with a girl being asked to give a sign that she loves the singer. ONE is a boy band that first appeared in 1999, recognized as both Greece and Cyprus's first boy band. The band was formed by leading Cypriot-Greek composer Giorgos Theofanous and Minos EMI A&R Manager Vangelis Yannopoulos. Constantinos Christophorou and Philippos-Constantinos Philippou were on board quite early, chosen by Giorgos Theofanous. The next three members were picked up after a selective audition that took place in legendary Athenian Sierra Studio. The selecting committee consisted of Natalia Germanou, Posidonas Yannopoulos, Andreas Kouris, Themis Georgandas, Theofanous and Yannopoulos.
