Custos Rotulorum
''Custos rotulorum'' (; plural: ''custodes rotulorum''; Latin for "keeper of the rolls", ) is a civic post that is recognised in the United Kingdom (except Scotland) and in Jamaica. England, Wales and Northern Ireland The ''custos rotulorum'' is the keeper of an English, Welsh and Northern Irish county's records and, by virtue of that office, the highest civil officer in the county. The position is now largely ceremonial. The appointment lay with the Lord Chancellor until 1545, but is now exercised by the Crown, under the Royal sign-manual, and is usually held by a person of rank. The appointment has been united with that of the lord-lieutenancy of the county throughout England since 1836. The ''custos rotulorum'' of Lancashire was formerly appointed by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, and that of County Durham vested in the Bishop of Durham until the abolition of its palatine rights. Hertfordshire
Hertfordshire ( or ; often abbreviated Herts) is one of the home counties in southern England. Henry Parker (MP For Hertfordshire)
Sir Henry Parker (by 1514 – 6 January 1552), of Morley Hall, Hingham, Norfolk and Furneux Pelham, Hertfordshire, was an English politician. He was the son of Henry Parker, 10th Baron Morley. He shared a common ancestress in Margaret Beauchamp of Bletsoe with Henry VIII. Parker was the brother of Jane Boleyn née Parker, and thus the brother-in-law of George Boleyn, during the reign of Queen Anne Boleyn. He was knighted KB on 31 May 1533. He was appointed High Sheriff of Essex and Hertfordshire for 1536–37 and was a Justice of the Peace for Hertfordshire from 1537 to his death. He was also Custos Rotulorum of Hertfordshire from c. 1547 to his death. He was elected a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Hertfordshire in 1539 and 1547. Thomas Parry (Comptroller Of The Household)
Sir Thomas Parry (c. 1515 – 15 December 1560) was a Comptroller of the Household to the English Queen Elizabeth I. He was knighted by Elizabeth at her accession in 1558, and held the offices of royal steward, Cofferer, Privy Counsellor, Comptroller of the Household (appointed November 1558), Master of the Court of Wards and Liveries (appointed 26 April 1559), Member of Parliament for Wallingford (elected 1547, 1552, 1555), Hertfordshire (elected 5 January 1558–9), and Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire (appointed 1559). Career Parry's father was Henry Vaughan of Tretower Court, Breconshire, Wales whose father, Sir Thomas Vaughan, had been knighted and later beheaded by King Richard III. Sir Ralph Sadler
Sir Ralph Sadler or Sadleir PC, Knight banneret (1507 – 30 March 1587) was an English statesman, who served Henry VIII as Privy Councillor, Secretary of State and ambassador to Scotland. Sadler went on to serve Edward VI. Having signed the device settling the crown on Jane Grey in 1553, he was obliged to retire to his estates during the reign of Mary I. Sadler was restored to royal favour during the reign of Elizabeth I, serving as a Privy Councillor and once again participating in Anglo-Scottish diplomacy. He was appointed Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in May 1568. John Brograve
Sir John Brograve (1538–1613) was an English lawyer and politician. He was the Member of Parliament for Preston on several occasions, and once for Boroughbridge. Life He was the son of Richard Brograve by his wife, daughter of Mr. Sares. He matriculated at St John's College, Cambridge in 1554. In 1576 he was autumn reader at Gray's Inn, where he was admitted in 1555, and he was elected one of the treasurers there in February 1579–80, and again in February 1583–4. In 1580 he was appointed her majesty's attorney for the Duchy of Lancaster, and he continued to hold that office under King James I, who conferred on him the honour of knighthood. He was nominated one of the counsel to the university of Cambridge in 1581. William Cecil, 2nd Earl of Salisbury, (28 March 1591 – 3 December 1668), known as Viscount Cranborne from 1605 to 1612, was an English peer, nobleman, and politician. Early years, 1591–1612 Cecil was the son of Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury and Elizabeth (née Brooke), the daughter of William Brooke, 10th Baron Cobham.. He was born in Westminster on 28 March 1591 and baptized in St Clement Danes on 11 April. William's mother died when he was six years old, and he was subsequently raised by his aunt, Lady Frances Stourton. In January 1600 Queen Elizabeth gave him a coat, a girdle and dagger, a hat with a feather, and a jewel to wear on it.
