Cuby Blizzards
Cuby + Blizzards, also known as Cuby & the Blizzards, were a Dutch blues group, founded in 1964 by vocalist Harry Muskee and guitarist Eelco Gelling.Larkin C ''Virgin Encyclopedia of Sixties Music'' (Muze UK Ltd, 1997) p 137 During the 1960s, the band's mixture of sound, drawing upon a variety of genres which included blues and rock and roll, gave them a pioneering sound which was completely different from any other Dutch band in the same period. The spelling of the name varies, with 'Cuby' also written as 'QB' and the ampersand (&) also written as 'and' or '+' and the 'and' sometimes left out. The spelling 'Cuby + Blizzards' was used on the first albums. Career Cuby + Blizzards originated from Drenthe Grolloo with members Harry Muskee (whose dog was called Cuby), Eelco Gelling, Nico Schröder and Hans Kinds. The band's first single, a blues-based track bearing similarities to The Pretty Things output, was "Stumble and Fall" in 1965. They had their first top 40 hit with "Back ... Cuby, Cornwall
Cuby ( kw, Sen Kubi) is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Tregony with Cuby in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom, situated approximately 7 miles (12 km) southwest of St Austell. In 2011 it had a population of 178. Cornelly parish was united with Cuby in 1934. In November 2020, the parish council voted to merge with neighbouring Tregony. Both villages are now part of the parish of 'Tregony with Cuby' that came into effect on 1 April 2021. Cuby Parish Church The church of Cuby is dedicated to Saint Cuby, a Cornish saint: since the parish church of Tregony was lost to the River Fal c. 1540 Cuby Parish Church has been in fact the parish church of Tregony also. The church was rebuilt in 1828 though some of the medieval masonry still exists on the north side and the tower (of two stages) is of the 14th century. Saint Cuby (in Cornish) or Saint Cybi (in Welsh) was a 6th-century Cornish bishop, saint and, briefly, king, who worked largely in Cornwall and North Wales: his biography is recorded in two slightly variant medieval 'lives'. Life in Cornwall His ''vita'', found in two (Latin) forms written about 1200, is of very doubtful value, but may be right in making him the son of a Cornish noble who was ''princeps militae'', at a court between the Tamar and the Lynher, possibly Gelliwig. According to the 'Life of Saint Cybi', he was the son of Salomon, a 'warrior prince', generally thought to have been a King of Cornwall.
