Croche River (La Tuque)
The Croche River is a tributary of Saint-Maurice River, and flows in the regions of Haute- Mauricie and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, in the province of Quebec, Canada. The Croche River crosses the following cantons of Chabanel and Bécard, in Lac-Ashuapmushuan (unorganized territory), in the MRC Le Domaine-du-Roy Regional County Municipality, in the administrative region of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and the cantons of Michaux, Lavoie, Langelier and Malhiot, in the territory of La Tuque, in Mauricie. Croche River is one of the five largest tributaries of the Saint-Maurice River. Geography The Croche River rises at the mouth of Caribou Lake (length: in the North-South axis; altitude: ). La Tuque (urban Agglomeration)
La Tuque (; ) is a city located in north-central Quebec, Canada, on the Saint-Maurice River, between Trois-Rivières and Chambord, Quebec, Chambord. The population was 11,227 at the Canada 2011 Census, most of which live within the Population centre (Canada), urban area. At over 28,000 square kilometres, it is the largest city in Canada by area. The city is known as the Queen of Haute-Mauricie. The ''Classique internationale de canots de la Mauricie'' canoeing race begins at La Tuque. Etymology The name, which dates to the eighteenth century, originates from a nearby rock formation which resembles the well-known French-Canadian hat known as the tuque. The hat-shaped mountain which gave its name to the town of La Tuque is located between the Saint-Maurice River (left bank) and the WestRock paper mill.
