The Prince of Asturias Cup (, ) was an inter-regional Association football, football competition contested by the List of Spanish regional football federations, regional selections of Spain – selections of players from clubs from the region in question, meaning that players did not need to be native to the region. There have been seven tournaments for the Prince of Asturias Cup, the first of which was organized in 1915 by the Royal Spanish Football Federation, national committee of the RFEF (Spanish FA) in honor of the donator of the trophy, don Alfonso, Prince of Asturias (1907–1938), Alfonso, Prince of Asturias, the first-born son of Monarchy of Spain, King Alfonso XIII and Prince of Asturias. The Royal Spanish Football Federation ( es, Real Federación Española de Fútbol; RFEF) is the governing body of football in Spain. It is based in La Ciudad del Fútbol of Las Rozas, a municipality near Madrid. Josep Samitier
Josep Samitier Vilalta (; 2 February 1902 – 4 May 1972), also known as José Samitier, was a Spanish football player, manager and scout who played as a midfielder for FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, OGC Nice, the Catalan XI, and Spain. He later coached Atlético Madrid, Nice and Barcelona and worked as a scout for both Barcelona and Real Madrid. Campo de O'Donnell was Atlético Madrid's main stadium between 1913 and 1923.
