Clwyd West (UK Parliament Constituency)
Clwyd West ( cy, Gorllewin Clwyd) is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (at Westminster). It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post method of election. The current MP is David Jones of the Conservative Party, first elected at the 2005 general election and who also served as Secretary of State for Wales from 4 September 2012 until 14 July 2014. 2005 United Kingdom General Election
The 2005 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday 5 May 2005, to elect 646 members to the House of Commons. The Labour Party, led by Tony Blair, won its third consecutive victory, with Blair becoming the second Labour leader after Harold Wilson to form three majority governments. However, its majority fell to 66 seats compared to the 167-seat majority it had won four years before. This was the first time the Labour Party had won a third consecutive election, and remains the party's most recent general election victory. The Labour campaign emphasised a strong economy; however, Blair had suffered a decline in popularity, which was exacerbated by the decision to send British troops to invade Iraq in 2003. Llangernyw
Llangernyw () is a rural, mostly Welsh-speaking, village and community in Conwy County Borough, Wales. Overview At the 2011 census, the community had a population of 1,079 of whom 63.7 percent were Welsh speakers. The comparable figures for the 2001 census were a population of 982, 67 per cent of whom were Welsh speakers. The population of the village itself is around 400. The village lies on the A548 between Llanrwst and Llanfair Talhaiarn, at the point where the Afon Cledwen, a tributary of the Afon Elwy, is crossed by the main road. Situated on the outskirts of the village is Hafodunos, a gothic mansion ravaged by fire in 2004. The churchyard of St Digain's parish church in Llangernyw is the site of an ancient yew tree, the Llangernyw Yew, estimated to be around 4,000 years old. Llanfair Talhaiarn
Llanfair Talhaiarn ( cy, Llanfair Talhaearn), abbreviated to ''Llanfair TH'', is a village and community approximately south of Abergele in Conwy county borough, Wales. Until 1974 it was included in Denbighshire. The village derives its name from the church ("Llan") dedicated to Mary ("Mair", altered in this compound word to "Fair", hence "Llanfair"), that was founded by a monk called Talhaiarn from Valle Crucis Abbey (according to local legend). The original church has long disappeared. The poet and architect John Jones (January 1810 – October 1869) was born at the Harp Inn (now known as Hafod y Gân) in Llanfair. He took the bardic name "Talhaiarn", and there is a popular misconception that this was the origin of the name of the village. Llandrillo yn Rhos is the name of an electoral ward in Conwy County Borough, Wales. Its boundaries are coterminous with those of the Community (Wales), community of Rhos-on-Sea ( cy, Llandrillo-yn-Rhos), on the North Wales coast, with the Mochdre, Conwy, Mochdre and Rhiw, Conwy, Rhiw wards to the south, Penrhyn (electoral ward), Penrhyn ward to the west and Liverpool Bay to the northeast. Llanddulas
Llanddulas is a village in Conwy county borough, Wales, midway between Old Colwyn and Abergele and next to the North Wales Expressway in the community of Llanddulas and Rhyd-y-Foel. The village lies beneath the limestone hill of Cefn-yr-Ogof (670 ft). This hill has large caves, and quarrying of limestone was formerly the main industry of the village, with crushed stone being exported from the 200 m long jetty. According to figures from the 2011 census, Llanddulas, combined with nearby village Rhyd y Foel, had a population of 1,542, with around 23% of the population having some knowledge of the Welsh language. Kinmel Bay
Kinmel Bay ( cy, Bae Cinmel) is a seaside village in Conwy County Borough, north-east Wales. It is also an electoral ward to the county council and town council. The resort town of Rhyl lies just across the River Clwyd in the neighbouring county of Denbighshire. According to the 2001 Census, together with neighbouring Towyn (to the west), it had a population of 7,864, of which 10.7% could speak Welsh. Gele (electoral Ward)
Gele is the name of one of the electoral wards in the town and community of Abergele, Conwy County Borough, Wales. It covers the southern part of the town and a more rural area to the southeast including the settlement of St George. It takes its name from the River Gele which runs through the western part of the ward. As of 2016 the estimated ward population of the ward was about 4,600, with 22.7% able to speak Welsh. Eirias
Ysgol Eirias, (English: Eirias School) is a secondary school situated in Colwyn Bay, in Conwy county borough, North Wales. The school has approximately 1600 pupils and over 120 teachers and staff. The school’s name is derived from its location, the grounds of Eirias Park. The current headteacher is Sarah Sutton, taking over from Phil McTague in 2017, who took over from Clive Hampton in 2006. School Life Houses Ysgol Eirias has four houses. The houses are each named after a Prince of Wales adjoined to the name of a bird. Glyndwr Eagles, Llewelyn Hawks, Madog Kites and Gwynedd Falcons. Betws Yn Rhos
Betws yn Rhos ('' en, Chapel house in Rhos'') is a village and community in Conwy County Borough, Wales. Betws yn Rhos is located about inland between the coastal towns of Abergele and Colwyn Bay. Until 1974 it formed part of Denbighshire, but subsequent local government reorganisations saw it administered as part of Clwyd from 1974 to 1996, before its current administration as part of Conwy County Borough. At the 2001 census the population was 944, increasing to 1,052 at the 2011 census. The village itself only has a population of 312. Pensarn
Pensarn is a suburb of Abergele in Conwy County Borough, Wales, the name Pensarn means 'end of the causeway' in English. The crossing of Morfa Rhuddlan was facilitated by a causeway near the sea, located at this point. This causeway was later developed by holiday developments along the coast between Rhyl and Abergele.
