''CHiPs'' is an American crime drama television series created by Rick Rosner and originally aired on NBC from September 15, 1977, to May 1, 1983. It follows the lives of two motorcycle officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The series ran for 139 episodes over six seasons, plus one reunion television film in October 1998. Overview ''CHiPs'' is an action crime drama in a standard hour-long time slot, which at the time required 48 minutes of actual programming. A signature of the show, especially in the later seasons, were frequent over-the-top freeway pileups. For filming, traffic on Los Angeles freeways was non-existent and most chase scenes were done on back roads. Lou Wagner (born August 14, 1948) is an American actor. He is probably best known for his regular role as mechanic Harlan Arliss in the NBC television series ''CHiPs'' from 1978 to 1983. Larry Wilcox
Larry Dee Wilcox (born August 8, 1947) is an American actor best known for his role as California Highway Patrol officer (later captain) Jonathan "Jon" Baker in the television series '' CHiPs'', which ran from 1977 to 1983 on NBC. A Vietnam veteran, Wilcox races cars and is also a private pilot. Early life Wilcox was born on the 8th of August 1947 in San Diego, the son of Marion G. and John C. Wilcox. He and his three siblings were raised in Rawlins, Wyoming, by their single mother. He graduated from Rawlins High School went to the University of Wyoming, then transferred to Los Angeles Pierce College. He eventually went to Cal State Northridge. California Highway Patrol
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is a state law enforcement agency of the U.S. state of California. Thomas Michael Reilly III (born June 18, 1959, in Fort Riley North, Kansas) is an American actor, known for his role as Officer Bobby "Hot Dog" Nelson in ''CHiPs'', a television series about the motorcycle officers of the California Highway Patrol. Prior to his acting career, he was a star football player at Montclair State College (now Montclair State University) in Upper Montclair, New Jersey but eventually dropped out. On June 18, 1982, he went into NBC studios for a screen test. His first role on ''CHiPs'' was Officer Rick Nichols in the May 23, 1982, episode "Force Seven," a rejected pilot for a new series. Crime films, in the broadest sense, is a film genre inspired by and analogous to the crime fiction literary genre. Films of this genre generally involve various aspects of crime and its detection. Bruce Lee Penhall (born May 10, 1957) is an American former professional motorcycle speedway racer who later starred in television and in film. He was the World Speedway Champion in 1981 and 1982 and rode for the successful Cradley Heath Heathens speedway team in the United Kingdom.
