China Peak
China Peak, previously known as Sierra Summit, is a ski area in Central California, near Fresno. It opened in 1958, named after the mountain, Chinese Peak. Location and terrain China Peak is located on the south shore of Huntington Lake, about northeast of Fresno. It has of skiable terrain, with 40% of it covered by snowmaking. The mountain has a vertical rise of 1,700 from base to top, and a maximum elevation of 8,700 feet. As of the 2021-2022 season, China Peak is on the Indy Pass. History China Peak opened in 1958. The original owner was Knut Flint. Flint recognized the skiers in the San Joaquin Valley would have to drive to Lake Tahoe or Badger Pass, since there were no other resorts on the southwest side of the Sierras. Creek Fire (2020)
The Creek Fire was a large wildfire which started on September 4, 2020, near Shaver Lake, California, and became one of the largest fires of the 2020 California wildfire season. The fire burned and was declared 100% contained on December 24, 2020. The fire burned mostly in the Sierra National Forest. The Creek Fire was the fifth-largest wildfire in modern California history, and the second-largest single fire not part of a greater complex. The fire necessitated the rescue of hundreds of people by National Guard helicopters. Evacuations were issued in North Fork, Bass Lake, Big Creek, Shaver, Huntington Lake, Tollhouse and Auberry, California. Half the homes in Big Creek were reported to have been destroyed by the fire. Snow Summit
Snow Summit is a ski resort that was established in 1952 and is in the San Bernardino Mountains in Southern California. It is located by Big Bear Lake along with its sister resort Bear Mountain; these two resorts which operate under the same management are collectively known as Big Bear Mountain Resorts (BBMR). Snow Summit is one of the larger ski areas in Southern California, and is considered to be one of the most popular ski and snowboard destinations for patrons from around the Los Angeles area. Shaver Lake (formerly, Musick Creek and Musick Creek Heights) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 634 at the 2010 census, down from 705 at the 2000 census. Shaver Lake is on the southwest end of the lake of the same name, east of New Auberry, at an elevation of . The name honors C.B. Shaver, founder of the Fresno Flume and Irrigation Company that built the dam, creating the lake. The lake served as a mill pond for the Shaver Sawmill and the source for a flume that ran to Clovis. The original town of Shaver was buried under the lake when the Thomas A.
