Chief Of Defence Forces (Malaysia)
The Chief of the Defence Forces (: CDF, , Jawi: ڤڠليما اڠکتن تنترا) is the professional head of the Malaysian Armed Forces and the most senior uniformed military adviser to the ''Yang di-Pertuan Agong'' (YDPA; 'King of Malaysia'), the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence. The CDF is based at Wisma Pertahanan, Kuala Lumpur, nearby to the Ministry of Defence. The CDF is the highest rank in Malaysia Armed Forces only after the YDPA which hold the title Commander-in-Chief. Also known as "''Perintah Ulung''" ( 'Superior Command'), the CDF is part of Armed Forces Council together with Minister of Defence, YPDA's representative, Chief of Army, Chief of Navy, Chief of Air Force, Chief of Staff and so on. Affendi bin Haji Buang (born 21 August 1962) is a Malaysian Air Force General who serves as the 21st Chief of Defence Forces. Prior to his assignment, he previously served as the Chief of Air Force. Background He was born at Kuching, Sarawak on 21 August 1962. He finished his early education at his hometown, and completed his education at the Royal Military College, at Sungai Besi, until he finished his Malaysian Certificate of Examination in 1979. He joined the Malaysian Armed Forces in 1980 as an RMAF Officer Cadet, and received his basic training at the Officer Cadet School, Sebatang Kara, at Port Dickson. The Chief of Air Force ( ms, Panglima Tentera Udara, Jawi: ) is the most senior appointment in the Royal Malaysian Air Force and has been held by a four-star officer in the rank of General (equivalent to Air Chief Marshal) since 1996. The Chief of Air Force is a member of the Malaysian Armed Forces Council and directly reports to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). The current Chief of Air Force is General Dato' Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan – who succeeded General Tan Sri Datuk Seri Ackbal Abdul Samad on 4 March 2022. Federation Regiment
The Federation Regiment was an attempt by British General Gerald Templer (1898–1979) to form a multiracial infantry regiment of the Malayan Federation Army. History In 1933, the British War Office agreed to the formation of the Malay Regiment as a locally raised regiment of the British Army. Two battalions of the Malay Regiment were raised before the Japanese invasion of Malaya, and both battalions acquitted themselves well during the Battle of Malaya and the subsequent Battle of Singapore. Malayan Emergency After World War II, the Malay Regiment was reformed and by 1948 had a strength of three infantry battalions. With the onset of the Malayan Emergency, the British Administration planned to increase the number of battalions to ten by 1960. Royal Malay Regiment
The Royal Malay Regiment ( ms, Rejimen Askar Melayu DiRaja; Jawi: ) is the premier unit of the Malaysian Army's two infantry regiments. At its largest, the Malay Regiment comprised 27 battalions. At present, three battalions are parachute trained and form part of the Malaysian Army Rapid Deployment Force. Another battalion has been converted into a mechanised infantry battalion while the remaining battalions are standard light infantry. Straits Settlements Volunteer Force
The Straits Settlements Volunteer Force (SSVF) was a military reserve force in the Straits Settlements, while they were under British rule. While the majority of the personnel were from Singapore, some lived in other parts of the Settlements, including Penang, Province Wellesley, Malacca and Labuan. The Penang and Province Wellesley Volunteer Corps (Abbr.: P&PWVC), also known as Penang Volunteer Corps and Penang Volunteer Rifle was a militia unit in Malaya. It was established on 1 March 1861 and together with Singapore Volunteer Corps and Malacca Volunteer Corps, they were a part of the Crown Colony of the Straits Settlements Volunteer Force (SSVF).
