The Chief Executive of the Falklands Islands is head of the public service responsible for the efficient and effective management of the Falkland Islands Government. The appointment, role and powers of the chief executive are set out in the Constitution of the Falkland Islands. Coat Of Arms Of The Falkland Islands
The coat of arms of the Falkland Islands is the heraldic device consisting of a shield charged with a ram on tussock grass in a blue field at the top and a sailing ship on white and blue wavy lines underneath. Adopted in 1948, it has been the coat of arms of the Falkland Islands since 29 September of that year, except for the two-month occupation of the territory during the Falklands War in 1982. The escutcheon is featured on the flag of the territory. The ram represents the territory's past primary industry of sheep farming, while the ship symbolises the ''Desire'' which reportedly first sighted the islands at the end of the 16th century. Tim Thorogood
Timothy "Tim" Rupert Thorogood (born 15 May 1962) is an English administrator who served as Chief Executive of the Falkland Islands from 2008 until 2012. Thorogood was born in Barbados and spent time as a child in the Falklands, where his father worked for Cable & Wireless. In 1983, he received an MA in history from the University of Cambridge before going on to get an MA in education, an MBA and PhD in Management from the Open University. After University, Thorogood worked at a school in Gosport, Hampshire, becoming the head of the school's history department. He then moved into local government working in Hertfordshire's LEA and the London Borough of Hillingdon, before becoming Director of Strategic Services in Three Rivers District Council and later Director of Support Services in Haringey Council. Christopher John Simpkins (born c. 1950) is an English administrator who was Chief Executive of the Falkland Islands from March 2003 to September 2007. The position of Chief Executive of the Falkland Islands is a three-year appointment in the first instance, with a possible extension for a further 2 years. It is a civil service position, made by an appointment panel. Before his appointment, Chris Simpkins was Chief Executive of South Holland District Council in Lincolnshire, England. Michael Dennis Blanch TD (born c. 1947) is a British diplomat who served as Chief Executive of the Falkland Islands from January 2000 to March 2003, and again as interim Chief Executive from 12 September 2007 to 3 January 2008. Blanch studied economics at university, gaining a PhD in 1975, and was a member of the Territorial Army for 26 years. In 1991, he became Chief Executive of Eastbourne Borough Council before moving to become Bromley LBC's chief executive in 1995. Legislative Assembly Of The Falkland Islands
The Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands is the unicameral legislature of the British Overseas Territory of the Falkland Islands. The Legislative Assembly replaced the Legislative Council (which had existed since 1845) when the new Constitution of the Falklands came into force in 2009 and laid out the composition, powers and procedures of the islands' legislature. The Legislative Assembly consists of eight elected members, two ex officio members (the Chief Executive and the Director of Finance), and the Speaker.
