Chennai Fort Station
Chennai Fort (formerly known as Madras Fort) (station code: MSF) is a station on the Chennai Suburban Railway and Chennai MRTS. It is the second station on the Chennai MRTS line from Chennai Beach to Velachery. History The station is named after Fort St. George, which it serves. Madras Dental College is located opposite the station, adjoining Madras Medical College Men's Hotel and Nursing College. The Madras Medical College is a few hundred metres away. The station consists of 260 sq m of open parking area. The station Platforms There are a total of 5 platforms and 5 tracks. The platforms are connected by foot overbridge. Madras Medical College (MMC) is a public medical college located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Established on 2 February 1835, it is the second oldest medical college in India, established after Calcutta Medical College. History The Government General Hospital was established on 16 November 1664 to treat soldiers of the British East India Company. Mary Scharlieb graduated from Madras Medical College in 1878. In 1996, when the metropolis of Madras was renamed as Chennai, the college was renamed the Chennai Medical College. It was later re-renamed back to the Madras Medical College since the college was known worldwide by the older name. Government Dental Hospital And College, Chennai
Tamil Nadu Government Dental College, also known as Government Dental Hospital and College, is the dental wing of the Madras Medical College. Although the college is a separate entity administratively, it is functionally integrated with the Madras Medical College and Government General Hospital. The hospital is claimed to be the first in the country to provide treatment to 1,000 to 1,500 patients a day in various branches. Expansion In 2012, new annexe building constructed at a cost of 206.3 million was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Velachery (Chennai MRTS)
The Velachery MRTS Station is a ground level station on the Chennai MRTS railway line in Chennai. It is located near the junction of Velachery Main Road and Inner Ring Road in Velachery. The station is built on the northern banks of Pallikaranai wetland. History The station was opened on 19 November 2007. The EMU maintenance shed at the station was opened in 2008. Structure The length of the platform is 280 m. The station premises also consists of 12,250 sq m of open parking area. EMU shed The station has a massive shed for preventive maintenance of electrical multiple unit (EMU) rakes, which is spread over 44 hectares. Before the opening of the shed in 2008, maintenance of the all MRTS rakes were being sent to . However, the shed has been lying in disuse for the past few years.
