Catholic Bishops' Conference Of India
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) is the permanent association of the Catholic bishops of India. It was established in September 1944, in Chennai. The CBCI Secretariat was located in Bangalore until 1962, when it was shifted to the national capital, New Delhi. The CBCI is a member of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences. Status and relation to the episcopal bodies of the three rites The CBCI is technically not an episcopal conference as prescribed in canon 447 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law; that role is fulfilled by the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India. Rather, the CBCI is similar to the 'assembly of bishops' described in 322§2 of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches. Pope John Paul II in a letter in 1987 directed the three rites to set up their own bishops' conferences. New Delhi (, , ''Naī Dillī'') is the capital of India and a part of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT). New Delhi is the seat of all three branches of the government of India, hosting the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, and the Supreme Court of India. The ''Annuario Pontificio'' ( Italian for ''Pontifical Yearbook'') is the annual directory of the Holy See of the Catholic Church. It lists the popes in chronological order and all officials of the Holy See's departments. It also provides names and contact information for all cardinals and bishops, the dioceses (with statistics about each), the departments of the Roman Curia, the Holy See's diplomatic missions abroad, the embassies accredited to the Holy See, the headquarters of religious institutes (again with statistics on each), certain academic institutions, and other similar information. The index includes, along with all the names in the body of the book, those of all priests who have been granted the title of " Monsignor". Alphonsus Mathias
Alphonsus Mathias (born on June 22, 1928, in Pangala, India) is a retired Roman Catholic archbishop of the archdiocese of Bangalore. Biography He was ordained a priest on 24 August 1954 and was appointed as the bishop of the Diocese of Chikmagalur on 16 November 1963. The Apostolic Internuncio in India James Knox consecrated him on 5 February of the next year to the bishop ; co-consecrators were Albert Vincent D'Souza, Archbishop of Calcutta, and Raymond D'Mello, Bishop of Allahabad. Order Of The Imitation Of Christ
Bethany Ashram , Perunadu , Ranni is the first Ashram of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church . It was established by P.T.Geevarghese, later Archbishop Ivanios and Alexios, later Alexios Thevodosios. The Ashram follows the religious order called Order of the Imitation of Christ (O.I.C.). Foundation of the ashram At Serampore, P.T. Geevarghese had more time for prayer and contemplation. Benedict Gregorios
Benedict Mor Gregorios (1 February 1916 – 10 October 1994) was the second metropolitan archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. Life Gregorios or "Thangalathil Thirumeni" was born and raised in the Malankara Orthodox Church in Kalloopara, present day Pathanamthitta district. He was baptised by the name Varghese. As a teenage boy Varghese came closer to the ideal of Bethany Ashram. He was attracted by the personality of Geevarghese Ivanios and later became a member of Bethany Ashram and adopted the name Benedict. He studied philosophy and theology at Papal Seminary, Kandy, Sri Lanka. He was ordained a religious priest of Bethany Ashram by then Bishop of Kandy Bernad Reinjo in 1944. Simon Ignatius Pimenta (1 March 1920 – 19 July 2013) was a Roman Catholic Cardinal and Archbishop Emeritus of Bombay (now Mumbai). Early life Born on 1 March 1920 in the village of Marol, in Bombay to Joseph and Rosie Pimenta, the young Simon Pimenta studied at the St John and then at St Xavier's College. Lawrence Picachy
Lawrence Trevor Picachy (7 August 1916 – 30 November 1992), was an Indian Jesuit priest, spiritual guide of Mother Teresa, and later Archbishop of Calcutta (1969 to 1992). He was elevated to the cardinalate in 1976. Biography Cardinal Pichachy was born in Darjeeling of Irish Catholic parents who had immigrated to India in 1911. Valerian Gracias (23 October 1900 – 11 September 1978) was an Indian Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Bombay from 1950 until his death and was elevated to the rank of cardinal in 1953 by Pope Pius XII.
